How to Save Money at VCA Jones Road Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Yonkers and her team are absolutely amazing. My kitten had to have intestinal surgery and they were able to take care of everything from surgery to at home care. They saved my kittens life and I couldn't thank them more for that ❤️ all the staff is very caring and attentive to your fur babies. Highly recommended!

Excellent vets office. All staff are wonderful, helpful and willing to educate you in a way that's simple to understand. I was able to make an appointment online for what I needed to get done for my pup. They helped me get a discount on flea, tick and heartworm meds by getting them mailed directly to me! We have signed up for the senior plan, it's like a monthly membership that help covers things my pet will need as she ages. They listen to your concerns and make you feel as comfortable as they do your pet. 🐾

I feel I have gotten pretty good care for my baby here. She is in the end stages of congestive heart failure but is being monitored and given medicine to help prolong her life. I would recommend this place to anybody

It saddens me to leave a highly negative review for a team I genuinely care about, but I feel a responsibility to share our experience so others in the community are informed and can hopefully avoid going through a similar situation with their furry family member. After consulting multiple veterinary professionals and reviewing accepted veterinary medical guidance, we learned that, according to the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, veterinarians in Texas are required to provide care that meets the generally accepted professional standard of care for the condition being treated. Unfortunately, the level of care and attentiveness we experienced did not align with these standards. We had to rush our pet to an emergency veterinary clinic due to nearly losing him shortly after his vet visit. He required at least three days of emergency hospitalization, resulting in thousands of dollars in medical bills. While our cat was hospitalized in the ICU, we also learned of underlying heart issues that had either been dismissed or not brought to our attention during our visit at VCA, along with other protocols that should have been followed by VCA given the severity of his condition. I reached out to VCA privately multiple times to communicate what happened and to seek clarification or accountability, but we did not receive a response, which ultimately led me to share this experience publicly for the sake of the community. I do want to acknowledge that the front desk staff, veterinary assistants, and vet technicians are attentive, hardworking, and kind. Their efforts do not go unnoticed and are truly appreciated. However, despite their dedication, nearly losing our family pet and seeing him in significant pain, without a sense that the seriousness of the situation was fully recognized or addressed, led us to seek care elsewhere with a more attentive and proactive veterinarian. I am leaving this review solely in the hope of preventing a similar experience for others and in the hope that VCA on Jones improves its attentiveness, communication, and accountability moving forward for both pets and their families.

I took both of my pets Chica and Liam! They had separate appointments and the doctor understood and seen them both at the same time. The nurse was very helpful helping us come up with a health and diet plan for both of my dogs! Honestly the best bet I been to! They were pretty nervous but they help calm them down! They have great customer service and have great listening ears to my concerns about my pets! I most definitely would recommend others come here! The place is well kept and very welcoming to the customers!
