How to Save Money at VCA Ashford Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve been going here to see Dr Trlicia for years. I took my first dog ever to this clinic in 2014 and have been bringing my cats in more recent years. This year my cat got an ear infection. These are supposed to be simple to treat, but I’ve come to find out that Dr. T did not do the tests we paid for and was not truthful about treatment options. She made it seem like our cat’s ear would inevitably become disfigured and there’s no preventing this. After paying for a surgery and three separate treatments with Dr T, my cat’s ear infection has only gotten worse. She’s now had this infection for over four months. I took her to get a second opinion today and they said that the ear deformity ABSOLUTELY was preventable. My cat is now disfigured because the vets at VCA didn’t want to lift two fingers to care for their patient. I’m almost positive the reason Dr. T didn’t treat my cat and lied about the medications is because she knew she’d make very little money from us as we get our vaccines elsewhere. In this economy, who out here ISN’T concerned about finances? The clinic we went to for a second opinion received records from VCA and they brought the lies to my attention - otherwise I would’ve never known with all the jargon Dr T uses and never explains. I’m extremely disappointed as I’ve recommended many friends to Dr. T in the past. If you truly care about the health of your pets, do NOT bring them here. I gave two stars rather than one for previous years of good service.

I've been looking for a new veterinarian more convenient to me... and after my first visit with VCA. I think I've found it! While it was pricier than I was expecting, after leaving I found it was worth every penny. The staff was incredibly kind and made me and my dogs feel comfortable, from scheduling our appointment to checking out. The rooms looked and smelled clean. The staff treated my dogs with the care and patience you hope to get at every vet clinic/hospital. Dr. Albers didn't make me feel like a "customer" and I never felt oversold on any treatments, she and the rest of the staff just focused on what my dogs came in for. Overall, it was a great experience and we definitely plan to return when needed.

Always surprises. First time i went I said I didn't want Simparica Trio, learned after I payed for 6 months of heart worm prevention that it was what I didn't want at my dogs first appointment. Called earlier this week about a concern with my DOG. 5 minuutes into the conversation she says something about a cat. She was looking at the wrong person's profile. I took my dog in for vaccines that were supposed to be covered. They waited until after administering treatment to tell me they weren't. It is always incompetent and surprises. Usually surprises that cost me several hundred dollars. I went to this vet because I'm new in town, and when I adopted my dog from the SPCA they were recommended. I have been underwhelmed and my dog has been underserved.

Awhile back, my old man cat, Cocoa, started looking unkempt, losing weight, and acting very unlike his happy self. We were seen very promptly at VCA Ashford. My husband told me that everyone was super friendly, reasonably priced, and so patient. It turns out my cat had an overactive thyroid. The vets were able to very quickly assess and treat him. My cat has problems taking pills so they were able to send out for a compound drug that was easy to pick up and easy to apply. He is doing so much better thanks to this wonderful group. Thank you! Update: 11/17/2022 Yesterday we said goodbye to my sweet fur baby! The doctors, nurses and management were so kind and empathetic towards our loss. Thank you so much!

We recently faced a heartbreaking medical emergency with our dog, and the doctors and staff at VCA Ashford Animal Hospital showed us extraordinary compassion and care when we needed it most. Although we hadn’t been regular clients in recent years, they didn’t hesitate to make room for us on short notice. From the moment we arrived, every detail was thoughtfully prepared—including a comfortable space for our dog—and the entire team treated us with genuine kindness and empathy. The veterinarian and staff struck the perfect balance of professionalism and warmth, patiently guiding us through each step and ensuring we had the time and support we needed. I’m deeply grateful for their sensitivity and the comfort they provided during such a difficult moment. I cannot express enough how much that meant to me.
