How to Save Money at Tanglewood Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We love Dr. Badeau and staff. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. They always work hard to get me in as soon as possible, especially based on urgency of my appointment. We take our dog and two cats to Tanglewood. Each has received excellent treatment. Also, since the clinic is a small family owned business I feel we get personal attention and everyone knows us there. Thanks for caring for our critters!

Reviews really are important!! My wife and I adopted a 9week old black lab and I researched all vet clinics in our zip code ( 4 clinics) and by far Tanglewood Animal Clinic had the best reviews and what I really appreciate is they gave feedback on all reviews including the one that was not highly rated. We will schedule appointment and go from there Thank you very much for all the reviews. July 29,2025. It has been 5 months since I made the above post about Tanglewood Animal Clinic and our pup is strong and really healthy. In the first post he was almost 5lbs and today he is 33lbs. We followed all the advice given by Tanglewood and we buy his heartworm meds monthly instead of buying several months at a time. It would be a little cheaper to buy in "bulk" but this way we get to take him in every month. The doctor does not check him out each time but we don't expect her to but at least she puts eyes on him and they weigh him for us and we think it a good idea to keep that contact with her and speak about our pup even if just 5 minutes. We never feel like we are bothering the staff .. in fact they recognize him and he loves going as they treat him as one of theirs and he always gets a good treat. Tanglewood will be our Vet as long as their doors remain open.

I called to ask a question about my cat and they were honest that they don’t recommend doing it with them and recommended me to go to a specialist. I have never been there but I appreciate honesty and they deserve a five star review

There are just no words to express how grateful I am to Dr. Badeau and her fine staff for the way they took care of both my Sonny and Boo-Boo recently. Although Sonny had a minor infliction, Boo came down with a high fever, lethargy, very little appetite and the worst was the diarrhea and vomiting. He is normally as healthy as can be, and this came on very suddenly. The scariest part was that his urine became very dark. Dr. Badeau had me come right in and the medicine she prescribed made him start to feel better right away. She was especially concerned as he had a bit of jaundice and his bilirubin (a liver enzyme was a bit elevated. Thank God whatever he had went away and his tests were normal after clearing up his infection. He is totally back to his rigorous and alpha-cat self now. I am so grateful to Dr. Badeau as I adore my babies and they are my family.
