How to Save Money at Neighborhood Veterinary Centers - South Post Oak
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Dr. Karen Richardson was absolutely fantastic!!! Marley is usually shaking like a leaf but Dr. Richardson and the wonderful vet technicians were amazing. Honestly, one of the smoothest visits Marley Swan has ever had. As a rescue, Marley is very much a Mama’s girl and very tentative around anyone new. Dr. Richardson was so sweet with my nervous little baby as were the vet techs!!! I’m a huge fan!!! Just have to get Daddy on board to feed her less!!!! Thank you Dr. Richardson!!! I’m so thankful to have the option for the yearly injection for heartworm and flea and tick protection!!! I will request you for each visit.

I’m appreciative of the vision NVC has to offer comprehensive veterinarian care and client education in an accessible way. Dr. Brady Hanson of the Nederland location has been a godsend with my rescue work. With Dr. Choyce at the helm of the Post Oak location, the sky is the limit. Dr. Pat Choyce has been an integral part of keeping our family pets safe, happy and well cared for throughout all life stages. He has guided us through major orthopedic surgeries, emergencies, UTIs, corneal ulcers, minor ailments like ear infections, lacerations, minor injuries etc along with more complex or lifelong chronic conditions like renal disease, thyroid disease, canine cognitive dysfunction, hearing loss and osteoarthritis. Dr. Choyce’s compassionate, comprehensive support and careful attention is steadfast and reassuring. He explains complex medical conditions in plain language, details treatment and management options from most conservative, moderate, to most involved explaining the benefits, risk and likely outcomes for each. He leaves no stone unturned and answers all questions. With multiple senior pets in our family: daily medication is just part of our routine. One incredible benefit that helps us tremendously is the opportunity to access RX meds via the pharmacy of our preference. Being able to price compare and utilize the most cost effective pharmacy for our pet’s daily medications enables us to access needed meds at an affordable cost. Which in turn allows us more financial flexibility to keep our pets closely monitored via more frequent vet appointments and diagnostics, which helps us detect changes and proceed with early interventions. Secondly, the rates for diagnostics including comprehensive blood chemistry lab work, imaging and testing is reasonably priced and more accessible than some other veterinary clinics. This helps us monitor conditions and screen for disease or abnormalities. To have access to view imaging in house provides relief and guidance on next best steps. Recently Dr. Choyce completed comprehensive exams for two of our seniors. They were examined from the tip of their nose to tail. All body systems were evaluated including liver, spleen, heart, stomach, intestines, bladder, gallbladder and more via in office ultrasonography. It was such a relief to see a visual of internal systems and have the doctor and staff explain findings in real time right there in the exam room during our normal routine visit. Additionally, Dr. Choyce and his staff have demonstrated apparent shared vision and ethics. To observe Dr. C. interact with support staff is to observe servant leadership. It’s refreshing to see mentorship, and collegiality among the caregiving team. It builds confidence that my family members are in capable competent hands when Dr. Choyce explains his standards, staff’s educational background, licensing and credentials. We are lucky to be able to access this excellent level of care. Dr. Choyce's high quality work is reflected in every interaction. I’m thrilled NVC continues to grow and am hopeful it will become a pillar of hope for the Houston and surrounding area like the Nederland hospital.

Dr Choyce and his staff are the best I have ever come across. After having problems with 2 previous vets in Houston I found Dr Choyce and he has cared for my animals ever since. They clearly do what they do because they love animals. My Yorkie was recently cared for by Dr Choyce for a lung infection and he did an amazing job treating him and hes fully recovered today. I cannot say enough about this guy and the quality of care he brings to this clinic. We love him and his staff.

Dr. Choyce is absolutely the best! I have been searching for years to find a vet who is caring, smart, reasonably priced and who truly loves their job. Dr. Choyce is just this- I cannot recommend him enough. He cared for my giant schnauzer and did an excellent surgery. He will respond 24/7 from his cell and is the best!
