How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Houston Veterinary Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

Dr.Miller and his team helped save my boy Apollo for the second time. He is very honest and always recommends the best thing to do. I will always be grateful for Houston Veterinary Hospital for saving my dog twice

Earlier this week, Dr. Miller cared for my two cats, Kevin and Sam, with the same attentiveness and expertise he’s shown while managing my mother’s cat, Chavela, who is terminally ill. His assessment of Chavela was impeccable—thorough, thoughtful, and deeply compassionate. He handled her with such care and concern, as if she were his own, and that level of empathy is something I’ll never forget. I’m incredibly grateful to Dr. Miller and his staff. Their professionalism, warmth, and genuine love for animals shine through in every interaction. It’s rare to find a veterinarian who embodies both clinical excellence and emotional intelligence so seamlessly. We feel truly fortunate to have him guiding Chavela’s care and now caring for Kevin and Sam as well. Thank you for being a source of comfort and trust during such a tender time. Today had to send my cat Mischief to the Rainbow 🌈 bridge. Everyone was so wonderful. Mischief and I were treated with respect and reverence. I appreciate all the care we received. I was glad they offered cremation.

Worst place to take your pet. Took my padme to see if they would help me, she is in soo much pain. Paid and outrageous amount and wanted to charge me a crazy price . At the moment I did wanted to pay it to see my baby live longer but asoon they said “ maybe she won’t survive the surgery I just cried . Some people don’t want to listen to them words saying she won’t survive but yeah you want to charge a crazy amount. I should’ve never came to this veterinary hospital. No help no medicine was given for the pain. I know for sure Houston Animal Hospital would’ve have taken good care of me and my baby Padme . Never again this vet is no help.
