How to Save Money at CityVet | River Oaks Veterinary Clinic & Urgent Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Cleary has taken great care of all 3 of my dogs over the course of 10 years. She was a valuable resource for my 18 yo dog in his final years. She was also the only vet he would allow anywhere near him. She has also provided expertise for a puppy we rescued (on the side of the road) who had distemper who miraculously thrives to this day. The newest addition to our family is a 4 lb toy breed with special needs because of his size. I am SO grateful her team was available yesterday for his urgent care needs after eating a packing peanut. There is NO other vet in this town that I would trust my babies to. Dr. Cleary and her team are warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely concerned about their patients wellbeing. They are also conscientious of costs and go over each option and pricing before moving forward with the best possible care.

Where do I start?! Best experience I’ve had with a veterinary clinic. From the moment we walked in it the space is clean, so calming, and the staff is all smiles and love. They spoiled my pup with the care they gave her. Mikayla the receptionist/front is so professional and kind, not only did she make our experience so easy, she even transferred me to a tech that could help right away. Toya was her tech, she educated us and gave us the best recommendations tailored to my pups history, she was so kind and gentle and took a personal interest in my baby. She made sure that Mishka got Frosty Friday pup cup experience! Our doctor Dr.Cleary is very professional and thorough in our visit, she didn’t miss a spot. Overall with the amount of staff involved in my visit made us feel so taken care of and my dog left the vet smiling! That’s a first… I will gladly be putting the trust and care of my pup into that hands of this clinic and staff primarily. So happy we found our new vet family! Highly recommend a visit and the pricing is very reasonable for the area! 10/10

I took my little Havanese to CityVet – River Oaks after he accidentally cut his paw at the groomer, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. The staff treated him with such genuine care and attention to detail. They were kind, supportive, and truly went above and beyond. We even left with a thoughtful goodie bag full of treats and useful items. The clinic itself is spotless, modern, and welcoming. Absolutely the best vet experience we’ve ever had! I wish I knew about them earlier.

Dr. Cleary is incredibly kind and knowledgeable. When it was time to say goodbye to my boy, she showed so much compassion and did everything possible to support both of us. She took the time to explain each step, made sure he was comfortable, and allowed his passing to be peaceful and dignified. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Cleary for helping my pup cross the Rainbow Bridge with such care and respect. Veterinary care, especially in urgent or end-of-life situations, is never simple or inexpensive, but at every step, options and costs were clearly explained, and I never felt pressured. What mattered most to me was the genuine care and professionalism shown during one of the hardest moments of my life.

Great facility, very friendly front desk assistance (Armani). Fantastic, caring techs (Toyia). Dr. Cleary has been treating my sweet Yorkie for about a decade or so now, she’ll be 14 this year. Dr. Cleary is so thoughtful, and has even text me after hours to check on my baby, she truly cares. I highly recommend her and am thrilled she’s finally opened her own facility. CityVet also accepts CareCredit which is helpful to know :) Cannot recommend this team and the experience they provide enough!
