How to Save Money at Briargrove Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was late picking up my cat. Dr Kurtz waited for me to make sure I had everything I needed for my cat and to make sure I knew how and when to administer multiple medications. It was apparent that she was on her way to another engagement but there was no judgment, no annoyance, no rushing. She was entirely focused on taking care of her client. But this is what she has always done for the past 10 years that we have been taking our pets to her. Thank you Dr Kurtz!!

They have been nothing but amazing. We spent 6-8 months with Banfield trying to figure out what was wrong with our elderly dog and were close to giving up. After 30 minutes (literally 30 minutes) the vets here had correctly diagnosed the issue and our dog was eating like normal that night. I am not exaggerating when I say that they gave us an extra full year with her. For that I'm eternally grateful and we've been bringing all our babies here since

Love Dr Mac and all the staff at Briargrove. Our family has used Dr Mac for over 20 years so naturally we followed her to Briargrove a few years ago. Everybody is very nice and our dogs love it!

I’ve been going to Briargrove with my dogs for nearly 22 years since I moved to the neighborhood. Dr. Kurtz, Sherly, and the entire staff have been wonderful and compassionate caregivers who have consistently gone above and beyond to provide the best care possible for my pets. I cannot recommend them strongly enough if you want the best for your precious pet.

Go to Baxter and Cleo in Spring branch do not go here. The front desk hasn’t been the most attentive when both my mother and I have been there to receive the services that we need for our pet. It’s more like we have to present ourselves instead of the other way around. Even Service workers, are taught to greet people as soon as they come in. Both the tech and the doctor seemed dismissive of how fearful my dog was and laughed at her instead of trying to get her on the table, which I had to do so myself. In doing so, my dog peed on the table and instead of wiping it down before putting her on her side, they decided with their years of medical knowledge that, It’s OK to have her stink like piss after her appointment. Honestly, I’m not even sure if what they gave my dog was even needed because it really went away on its own. Maybe it’s some BS that they sold us and that’s why the doctor is in such a low mood because their sales are bad or they need to push their inventory onto customers. I don’t know. And I hope y’all don’t respond with any BS like “call us so we can make this right”. Y’all can hire better receptionists, and the doctor can retire since it seems like her heart isn’t in the business. That would make things right in my eyes. Y’all are right down the street, literally walking distance. I much rather drive 30 minutes for the bare minimum treatment and more for my dog. Reply to BS Reply: Of course this isn’t my real name. Chances were given already to rectify behavior everyday for years and yet nothing has. Self awareness of behaviors is a difficult task, especially if it’s a habit that requires low effort like ignoring people when they come in and dismissing living being’s fear. Thank you for showing my dog and I what mistreatment is like so that I can recognize being snubbed at other places and leave ASAP.
