How to Save Money at Citi Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Exactly near Friendswood. Good pet care. There is a pet home at this location. We can leave our pet here when we are in a vacation. They will charge around 20$ or so per day. I am heartbroken to give this review. I’m sorry it’s long. My boyfriend brought our already diagnosed FeLV+ cat here last summer for a wellness exam, and they told him that our cat was “too healthy” to have Feline Leukemia. We did a little happy dance, and while I was skeptical I rejoiced. We went back a bit later as I noticed his eyes were unevenly dilating. Different vet than last visit, but told us it was likely just a parasite causing issues and sent us home with Revolution. They told us we could run more tests in the future, but it wasn’t pressing. Fast forward to May and my baby had been hiding his sickness from us, and we needed to run all the tests that day. We confirmed his FeLV status in the clinic that day. We couldn’t get an X-Ray here due to no oxygen on hand 🚩 and they blamed it on the storms that happened the week before. The vet tech was amazing, but the this is the 3rd vet we’ve been seen by during 1 year at this clinic. The ER they referred us to was great, and my cat was diagnosed with asthma. We had him on an inhaler & steroids for two weeks. Three days after the ER my boyfriend takes him back to Citi for a follow-up and our cat developed an ear infection. They were out of the cat medicine so they gave him a dose of dog topical meds for his ear 🚩. The vet also told my bf any food by Purina is “trash” with Purina pro just being the best of their line. I guess that’s subjective but then she told him the same thing about cat treats and to start giving our FeLV+ cat RAW chicken instead 🚩. This stunned me because I was open minded to raw food when I first got my baby, but a prior vet told me because FeLV suppresses the immune system it was not worth the risk. The straw that broke the camels back was when he overheard the vet talking to the tech in the back that our cat “would be dead by now if he had FeLV”. Clearly, they are not up to date on current studies on cats with FeLV. I hope they seek continuing education on this sensitive population. That comment was a grim foreshadowing. I was looking for a new vet at this point, but my cat died less than a week later from being seen at Citi. I don’t know the exact cause, but I know Citi overlooked my cat’s FeLV diagnosis several times while he was a patient in their care. I’m not blaming them for his death, but I feel they glazed over his condition and could have been more proactive. Again, I just wanted to give a shout out to the vet tech as they were always lovely. But I think cat parents should be cautious here, and FeLV owners should avoid this clinic at all costs.

We found a kitten and decided to adopt him. We took him to Citi since it's near our house and we love them! They were so sweet to our kitten and very informative!

Unfortunately I couldn't give 0 stars. I had an appointment today for a stray that showed up at my house and it didn't go well. So disorganized and yes they are kinda rude. And have you noticed that the owner only replies to the "good" comments, I guess it doesn't matter to them that they have so many bad reviews/dissatisfied customers.

Horrible! September 2022 Citi Animal Hospital in Friendswood performed 🎭 all four declaw on Our indoor cat. The vet Dr. Koothan did not take two of Her nails all the way out so Kemba has suffered recurrent of Her dew claws with nails just sticking out literally! I was quoted $400ish for surgery. Booked appointment! Dropped Kemba off to have Her all four declaw pick Her up only to find cost effective surgery is now $885 plus. For her two infected toes she's taken Clavamax and Onsior in December 2023 and again in March 2024. There's pus coming out of the sides of her nail. We can't tell if it's leftover nail or bone sticking out of her toe. It can be fixed with the removal of the leftover nail on both her paws. The DVM left enough nail in both toes after the declaw that the nail could be growing inside the paw leading to the infection. After Kemba took the antibiotics for 14 days in December 2023 all three toes infection didn't shrink. Again in March 2024 the infection grow bigger she did another 14 days of Clavamax with the infection not shrinking in size. The toe nail is growing inside and outside. The toe is hard to the touch. I added three photos of other cats with nails growing inside their toes after being declaw because there was leftover nail inside the toe.
