How to Save Money at Animal Hospital of Collin County

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat was with the Animal Hospital of Collin County for 2 years. If you’re reading this you’re probably aware of what it’s like to look for good animal patient care right now. This clinic is privately owned, not bought out by private equity. If you don’t know what this means, it’s worth finding out. Their exceptional pricing, patient care, and staff reflect it. Every interaction I had with the entire clinic staff over 2 years was positive and I never felt rushed. I never felt pressured to spend more money or that I was wasting anyone’s time with anxious parent questions. Anything I paid for was more than fairly priced, and considering all the extra care, probably even a bit underpriced. I felt like my cat was a part of their family, and if you’ve never had a clinic treat your animal the way you do, I can promise that this clinic will. The entire team I interacted with, Sara, Kelsey, Laurie, Brandy, Darrian, Connor, Hannah, Kate, of course Dr. Brown, all the other vet techs and front desk staff, they were all there for us anytime we needed anything. And we needed a lot. I can’t recommend Dr. Brown enough as a person or veterinarian. The way she works with patients isn’t like any other professional I’ve seen, and she and their entire team will be there for you and your family, just like they were for us. Thank you, Animal Hospital of Collin County for helping me raise my kitten. I couldn’t have done it without you.

I am so impressed with the team at Animal Hospital Collin County. My cat got ring worm a few weeks ago and they allowed me to bring her in within a couple hours of calling them. They've been really informative and personable during this long process of treating her. Having an animal with ring worm isn’t cheap but their prices have been comparable to other facilities and they’ve worked with me to come up with ideas for spending a little less. My cat is a happy girl!

Dr. Little and his staff took excellent care of our golden retriever for his splenectomy. From the surgery consult to the biopsy results ( negative for cancer!!) we felt very taken care of and would highly recommend the animal hospital if Collin county for anyone needed surgery for their pets.

AHCC was a huge blessing while I navigated the needs of my two senior dogs through their golden years- one with diabetes and Cushing’s and the other with CHF. I never had issues filling any prescriptions and they were so easy to work with to provide me options to manage their care that were accessible. I could not have managed their diseases without AHCC. Their love and care have my dogs many more good years than were anticipated. Thank you for taking such good care of Bentley and Mercedes!

Our senior dog Lacey got really sick and our normal vet was booked. We were able to get an appointment at Animal Hospital of Collin County and the care they gave us was incredible. They let us wait in the car until our appointment time and came and got us and walked us through a side door so we didn't have to wait in the waiting room with Lacey, minimizing her stress. Dr. Brown and the entire vet tech team was amazing. When we had to make the difficult decision to end Lacey's suffering, they compassionately walked us through the process and allowed us to be right there with her until she took her final breaths. I highly recommend their staff and team.
