How to Save Money at Indian Ridge Animal Hospital, Inc.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

One of the best Veterinarian Hospitals I have dealt with in a long time, for several reasons. Our first visit was pleasant and affordable. The main office and exam rooms were clean. The staff is courteous , friendly and accommodating. The Vet. ( Dr. Mears) was considerate and communicated well in simple terms. He then kept his promise to call with results. Amazing these days!! The atmosphere while there was calm and I don’t dread bringing my senior dog ( who is normally sensitive and easily shaken,) there in the future. I truly believe they do their best to communicate well with their Clients and offer the best care. KUDOS!!!

Updated Review (8-15-2023): I did receive a message from Indian Ridge today, and while there was no response to my partner's prior emails, I did go back and see where there was attempt to contact me a bit over a week after we left our cat with them. I was at work and did not recognize it as a saved number on my phone, but I am updating my review in fairness to them. We're picking him up later this afternoon and we're very relieved. Thank you for reaching back out; we really appreciate it. It's been a very painful loss and we're glad to get this closure after the miscommunication. -- Initial Review: I'm not sure exactly where to place the blame, if I'm being totally honest. We lost our cat very suddenly a month ago; my fiancee rushed him there, but he passed before anything could be done. Traumatic, but these things happen. The issue is that we opted to leave his remains there. We were told that my partner's card would be charged by the cremation service within a couple days. We waited til the following week. No charge. No word. We waited another week. I checked my messages and email... Nothing. She emailed and didn't receive a word back. Our work schedules are hectic so it's hard to get down there during their open hours, so we gave it a bit longer. Today makes the month mark, then suddenly after my partner send another email today, the charge goes through her bank account and not a soul contacted us about it . Nothing. Losing our baby was horrible enough. Not knowing where his remains were has been anxiety inducing. At this point we don't know if they company they use is even going to be giving us the ashes of our actual pet or just something completely random. If the vet did actually, promptly pass his remains on to the cremation service and they failed to do as they were supposed to, then perhaps they should look into recommending a different company. We're mortified. Our baby deserved far more respect than this. The money is one thing--it did end up causing that account to overdrawn mid pay cycle for her; but the biggest issue is the total, utter lack of communication during an entire process. We will never go back, though the doctor we saw was very kind in the moment. I like to think that this part was out of his hands, but it doesn't change how taxing this has been.

My poor little 3 lb Chion went in very sick on a Saturday morning. Not only did they fit me in last minute but they took wonderful care of my little guy. He had to stay overnight and I was so happy I was able to go visit him on Sunday even though they were closed. I highly recommend this veterinarian. Everyone truly cared about every animal I saw come through the door as I waited. My little Tiny Dog is recovering well at home thanks to their wonderful care.

Indian Ridge will always be the place that I take my fur babies from here on out. Dr. Mears and his staff are so compassionate for animals and their health. Everyone at this hospital exceeded all expectations in caring for my dog and for me. My pup broke his leg and they were able to get him in quickly for his surgery. Dr. Mears placed a plate in his leg and did a remarkable job. He was extremely knowledgeable and able to answer all questions that I had. The front desk staff has always made me feel like a priority. Lori was so kind and understanding when I reached out with concerns. Lori provided me with comfort and assurance that my pup was okay.

We had a small emergencywith our older mini schnauzer. The response from the staff was great. They immediately went into action to remove a bone lodged in her mouth and throat. Very professional and caring.
