How to Save Money at Cherry Point Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Cherry Point is an amazing animal hospital!! It’s hard to find a vet that just makes you happy all around. I’ve brought my dog and my cats here and have never had any issues! I actually had a 10 yr old cat that became very sick last year so I took him in, he had renal disease.. they hospitalized him for 2 days and always called to let me know what was going on! Long story short they did everything they could for my sweet Toby and me, he was discharged and felt better for a few days but the renal disease was very aggressive and he took a turn for the worst.. I decided to have him put to sleep so he was not suffering any longer.. the bill was $800 sumthn after it was all said and done but I was willing to pay that for the exceptional care they gave Toby. Even after Toby was laid to rest they sent me a card with their apologies about my sweet Toby! Not one card but 2! Even after a month or so had gone by, I was slowly starting to feel a bit better about losing my baby, they send me the 2nd card in the mail just letting me know they cared and hoped I was doing well and that they “loved my sweet baby Toby”! Every single person in that hospital signed this card, That just made me feel like “hey we’re still thinking about you and we’re sorry for your loss”. Most vets would probably not take the time out to do something like that! It made me feel like they truly cared! Needless to say this will be my vet till the end of time! 💕💕 1st photo was the 1st day I bright him in, 2nd photo was after picking him up a couple days later and he was feeling better, 3&4 photos were the day we had to say goodbye… RIP Toby and thank you all for everything you’ve done for my family! YOU ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Dr. Cherry was with my family every step of the way treating my dog, Ali's, bone cancer from initial diagnosis to treatment and chemo, amputation, and unfortunately after a few years, her passing as well. Dr. Cherry and his team put their whole hearts into treating her and she loved them for it. You'd think she'd not like the group of people that chopped off her leg and administered chemo but she would STILL get excited for vet visits with lots of smiles and tail wags. Thank you to everyone at Cherry Point for giving me just a little more time with my girl until she was ready to go. It means the world to me and my family.

DO NOT RECOMMEND for a number of reasons! If I could have rated it lower I would have. So we rescued this puppy 7/23. On 7/26 she pooped something that looked like a ball of worms and mucus. I called immediately on the 26th and asked if they could see her do to she wasn't eating very well and I suspected she was dehydrated. The girl who answered the phone had a attitude said they couldn't see her until Saturday at our appt. So since I was very concerned I did find another vet who could see her immediately. As suspected she was severely dehydrated, full of tapeworms along with the normal puppy worms they get, had to have fluids, shot for vomiting, and of course the dewormer. She is also very small 2lbs and she may not have made it to Saturday due to her size and how sick she was at that time. So after a day she started to feel better and playing. She took a leap on Saturday 7/29 and my husband rushed her over to Cherry Point. This time they saw him probably because I had canceled our appt due to me not feeling well. My husband was frazzled because she was just turning the corner from the whole worm diagnoses. Now she was hurt. So without thinking after they did xrays, steroid shot, and a prescription for pain meds for US to fill he left without thinking about the bill. By the time he got home and was telling me it was to late for us to call back to pay it. The bill was $286. Soooo, FIRST thing Monday 7/31 I called to find out the easiest way to make the payment and to talk to the vet about a easier pain med to find. Got a call back later that evening and a voice-mail was left due to me closing up my job and I didn't hear my phone. The vet that saw her said I could come by and pick up some different meds for her. So..while all this is going on we had an issue with our acct so I knew I didn't have the full payment. I still went to the vets office on 8/1 on my LUNCH break which took my whole break. I explained what happened told them I could pay like $160 or $170 of the bill plus pay for the meds. I was told I could not get the meds unless I paid off the office visit. I am not going to lie. I got pretty upset and the front desk knew it. This is so unlike my character. The girl helping me again had an attitude from the start which did not make matters better. She said it was policy. I told her I understand policy but things happen and if I was trying to run out on the bill I would not have contacted them first thing Monday morning and sure would not have came up there and tried to pay on it and give them approval to run my card on 8/10 for the reminder of the balance. I left and I called a few mins later and asked for someone higher to call me back. I was told the Office Manager would call me. Complete silence so when I got off at 5pm I called and was told after a long hold that she stepped out her office. I then said I wanted to talk to the owner. Here it is almost 10pm on 8/2 and come silence. NO ONE I WILL SAY THAT AGAIN NO ONE HAS CALLED ME. I wasn't trying to get my way. At this point there isn't anything they can do for me to come back. I have 6 animals not a one of them will step foot back in there. They care more about the money even after knowing I was trying to pay them over half of it and set up for them to run my card for the rest next week on the 10th. DID NOT CARE THAT SHE WAS HURTING AND IN PAIN. Just that they were not getting the whole amount at one time that was owed. I understand policy everywhere has policies but there are exceptions. Especially when it's evident that there are no ill intentions. I have never had a vet do this to a animal. Before I moved here i was with my vet 20 years and she had the same policy but would work with you if you made arrangements to pay so the pet didn't not suffer. Cherry Point from the policies in place to make a pet suffer, to the front desk guy that has an attitude and uncompassionate, to NOT even the owner or lead vet calling me back to hear me out to maybe think about this insanely strict policy....I am just disgusted

I went with a friend to have her old, blind, deaf, and senile dog checked for medical issues or euthanasia. He was in pitiful shape. The Dr talked about some temporary treatments, also, euthanasia. It was inevitable the baby needed to go to. Heaven. The Dr and all the staff were super kind. Great explanations. Gave us plenty of time to say a prayer and good bye. Very professional. We were even helped to the car with the baby for us to bring to my home for a burial. The assistant hugged us with tears in her eyes. It's hard to let our babies go. Great service from beginning to end. Super clean nice facility.

We really love Cherry Point. They have been great with our dogs. The staff is super friendly and easy to work with, no long waits for appointments, they offer boarding also. We've had to have our older dog's teeth cleaned several times and they always send a picture update and call to let us know how he's doing. We switched from another vet in the area due to poor diagnosis of our dogs teeth problems that cost us lots of money and didn't fix the issue, and who always had long wait times even if you were early for your appointment.
