How to Save Money at Spruce Veterinary Urgent Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I'm so glad we have a resource for urgent pet care on the west side! Spruce was exactly what I needed when my pup was experiencing non-emergency health concerns during the weekend. Dr. Burger and her team were wonderful and kind and the facility is very nice and calm. While I hope we don't have a need to return, I wouldn't hesitate to come back and I'll be recommending them to other pet owners!

My pup was not eating or drinking and throwing up while we were away at the coast. I called Spruce and the team immediately got me an appointment for the next day, did some intake over the phone and made everything so seamless. When I arrived they let me know it could be a little wait (which I knew ahead of time) and we were let into a room where my dog reactive pup could just hang out in til the doctor could see us. We were seen quickly and given a plan of action. Dr. Burger and tech CAs were both so great and knowledgeable. I’m so grateful they’re in the area and would bring my dog back again in a heartbeat. He’s now on the mend and doing great!

Dr. Phelps and everyone on her team were wonderful. They made sure my dog, Cashew, was comfortable and handled with care. I appreciated the easy intake and upfront estimate. I am left wishing they took regular patients.

One of our cats stopped eating and became lethargic over a weekend. We contacted Spruce early Sunday to schedule and appointment that afternoon and they said they would be happy to take him when they opened even though the appointment was not for later. We saw Dr. Burger right away and she was very compassionate and listened to the concerns. She indicated that she wanted to do an abdominal ultrasound, which unfortunately identified several masses in our cat's liver. Dr. Burger was very kind in delivering this bad news, but was also clear and concise in her answers so we knew what to expect and what the options were. After bringing our cat home and discussing, we contacted her again that afternoon to ask for a referral to Dove Lewis Animal Hospital for additional testing. She made it a priority to contact them and coordinate us having him seen first thing the following morning. She was very helpful in helping us navigate our options and assisting us in making the appropriate contacts to move forward. I trust her and her team with the care of our animals and appreciated her kind and straightforward approach. The front desk and support staff were also very kind.

All the staff from the receptionist, the assistant and Dr. Berger were all very kind, professional and clinically competent. The team was very generous to offer me an appointment at the end of the day to treat my Dog Cannon's wounded paw. Dr. Berger and her assistant did an excellent job explaining the treatment plan and I felt very reassured. The office is also very modern and clean. I saw the staff cleaning the rooms between each patient. I am so glad and relieved to have an urgent care clinic so close by where I can take my pups for any urgent health concerns. And to top it off I am so happy to support a locally owned business!
