How to Save Money at Cornell Road Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love all the vets here! They treat all my animals like they would their own and are very understanding of financial restrictions.

Oct '24 update: Keith Gordon, not only all of the below, but in addition, he had us by the short hairs, and treated us fair anyway . . brought in the dog, for various, scary stuff, but with a long and great history of surgical outcomes to his credit, we gulped (hard) and said to go ahead . . .19 HUNDRED DOLLARS + worth of scary stuff . . called us 3 times during surgery, calmly explained what was good, what was bad, asked us what to do, and calmly made what to us made sense, even though it cost us another $400 and change . . . . talk about clear, calm communication under (to us) incredible duress . . he could have charged us a LOT MORE than he did, and didn't, using his best medical judgement instead . . we're retired, inflation is doing to us what it is doing to you . . . these folks came through . . again . . when our dog, and our retirement budget really REALLY needed them to . . we're broke, humbled and thankful that we have him (all of them) available to us. . . 3 years later: Gotta add in the boss, Keith Gordon, nice as the rest of the vets. Did a first time exam on our newest pup. Competent, clear, warm, and knowledgeable. 3 years ago: We've been to two vets there, Randy and Katie, both of whom seemed intelligent, direct, compassionate and nice people to talk to . . if you have to see someone and pay them, while under the duress of a hurting pet, it is best if you are able to RESPECT their humanity, as well as their opinion; we have dealt with two techs there, neither of which names we noted, who were equally reassuring . . and at a fair price . . great experience all the way round . . .

OUTRAGEOUS PRICES!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! It was bad enough when I was paying $28 for a nail dremel but was just charged $37 as their prices increased $9. I’m not having any other service done not even having them trim first then dremel, no anal glands no nothing but am being charged almost $40?! And they don’t tell you before service that their prices have increased so I was stuck paying $74 for 2 dogs! I can get them groomed for that price! Not to mention when I brought my dog here for a spay and nasal widening procedure they almost killed my dog and when I went to reschedule the nasal surgery because they could only complete the spay, the cost was more than both surgeries would have cost me together. How does that make any sense? I will NOT be back. They have raised their prices on me for the last time. They have lost a long-term client for good. Save your money to spoil your pet rather than wasting double what other vets charge.

I cannot recommend Cornell Rd (formerly Walnut St) Veterinary Clinic enough. 9+ years with our gentle giant wasn't nearly long enough; but the good doctors helped us on numerous occasions, dealing with her special needs as a BIG dog. Right up until, and even after, the very end; Cornell Rd Veterinary Clinic knew, exactly how we'd feel, our needs etc. It's so easy to take the services of a Veterinarian for granted. Cornell Veterinary Clinic is an invaluable contributor to our community. I will never be able to thank you enough for helping Gracie's passing go so smoothly. Oh, and #FudgeCancer.

Dr. Gordon and the team are amazing. My best friend "Tiger" the cat has been coming here for six years. He is now 17 years old. Dr. Gordon's patience and care saved him. Not enough words to describe how much I appreciate Cornell Road Clinic. Thank you all for taking care of my little guy.
