How to Save Money at Southeastern Ontario Spay Neuter Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I got my male cat neutered here and I had an overall positive experience, the staff was very friendly and the process to set up the appointment was easy. I was impressed at first but afterwards I noticed some things I wasn’t happy with. They are: 1. My cat has long fur - they did not shave the area that they operated on or the area that they put the IV in so he had spots on his arm where the blood crusted close to his skin and I noticed him picking at it after. I ended up trimming his fur as closely as I could to his skin to get them out without hurting/stressing my cat out. Since his butt wasn’t really trimmed back when he was using the bathroom he would get pee/ litter in his fur that he would normally groom out but because of the surgery he wasn’t supposed to be licking the area so I also had to clean the pee out of his fur for him without getting his incision wet. 2. I think my cat got fleas here?? The whole situation was confusing but they called to tell me he had fleas then called again and said he didn’t have fleas but he got them from a different cat that was there and they were treating him at no cost to me. Then when I picked him up they said he did actually come to the clinic with fleas but they still won’t charge me for it. This is was very nice of them and they didn’t need to cover the costs if I brought fleas in. This was confusing though because I have two other cats that he interacted with regularly before his surgery that I have scoured with a flea comb and have found no dirt. Once he got home I checked him and he did have dirt and I found one live one. Since then I have seen one more live one and a few dead ones and more dirt. I didn’t notice anything prior to the clinic but he is pretty fluffy so it’s possible they just didn’t want to leave his fur to spread to my other cats I guess. Either way I am happy that he was treated there but it is noteworthy from my experience with the clinic. Overall I would recommend it if you’re in a pinch but if you can find something with your regular vet, I would have preferred to do that. I included a pic of my cat looking like he’s seeing the future just cause… I didn’t take any pictures of his healing balls unfortunately.

I am consistently impressed with the exceptional service and care provided by this veterinary clinic, particularly with regards to the spaying procedures for my two female Labradors. The process is efficient, yet thorough, with the staff taking the time to meticulously explain each step and address any concerns or questions I may have had. Their dedication to delivering outstanding patient care is truly commendable. I would not hesitate to recommend this clinic to others and look forward to continuing to utilize their services in the future! Thanks again!

My small dog was spayed here a few months ago. It was a great experience! The instructions for before and after care were detailed and helpful. Clear instructions were provided for drop off and pick up, including times. Staff were patient in explaining everything to me, efficient and friendly. My dog healed really well and I can hardly even see her scar. They did an amazing job!
