How to Save Money at VCA Canada Richmond Hill Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I used to see Dr. Kadri for many years with my 16 year old maltese. He provided excellent care for her that extended her life for may years. After her passing, we got a little havanese puppy and she had multiple medical issues after developing an infection. Dr. Kadri was not able to properly treat her and we had to go to several emergency clinncs to get a proper care plan. Her care was completely mismanaged at this clinic and she almost passed away as a young puppy. as she as not properly diagnosed. Fortunately we found a new clinic and she is now in excellent health. I would not recommend this clinic.

Recently, I realized my dog Python was eating rabbit poops everyday, for a few years. I was afraid that he might have parasites. I went to the clinic to see Dr Wu. Dr Wu did a very thorough body check for him. She also checked Python’s heart very thoroughly and explained to me his heart beat rate and blood pressure conditions. That cleared all of my worries. She also gave me very valuable advice on how to handle Python’s behavioral problems. Besides, she explained the importance of the heartworm medication, that it has deworming effects, which can help with parasite problems. She was so nice and helpful! I am so glad that we visited her. A stool test was done. The test result was available very quickly. The clinic’s front desk was also very friendly and helpful. This was a very good experience!

The entire staff is so nice but I come here specifically to see Dr. Wu. I follow her everytime she moves to a different clinic for good reason! You can tell she really cares about your dog and will take the time needed to ensure it's not a terrible experience for them. 12/10 recommend :)

I have been bringing my dog here since he was just weeks old. I am not convinced he receives the best care. Often I just feel like the vet just wants you to spend money. My dog has been having some kind of skin irritation and they have been saying it’s allergies. He’s had pills, injections and still no resolution. Team hasn’t really looked into it either I feel. No skin scraping done, no trying to figure out what’s causing it. Just writing me different prescriptions for him. His poor feet are bothering him and getting worse. We are officially going somewhere new for a second opinion. Makes me sad because I would have liked him to stay with his vet. Feel like the care here has gone down hill.

I've been taking my cat to Dr Kadri for over 3 years and he has always treated my cat who has FIV with gentle and delicate hands. My cat recently had dental surgery and Dr Kadri and the entire staff were fantastic!! He answered all my questions before surgery and after and the Nurses and Staff were loving and caring towards Ranger. I highly recommend taking your precious fur baby to this Vet. They are incredible. Ranger is featured on the Gallery. Thank you again for all your wonderful work. Victoria Graham
