How to Save Money at Dundas Euclid Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

You always hope that your dog never gets sick or never needs a checkup, but it happens. We've been bringing our dog to the animal hospital at Dundas Euclid for quite some time actually ever since she was born. It really helps us with peace of mind that they've always treated her with patience and care to the point that our dog actually runs to the door and wants to go to the vet rather than shying away. They've been patient and kind to us who are new pet caretakers, and have answered all of our silly questions promptly and fully. I can't speak highly enough about the staff and team at the animal hospital. I would fully recommend them to anyone bringing their pet for any reason.

Thanks for your reply, Melanie. As you were not there, let me tell my side of the story. I am nine months pregnant and expecting a baby any day. My big Doberman injured her paw and was jumping around my apartment in pain. We didn’t want the dog to accidentally hurt me so we asked if our request for my Dog’s sedative could be expedited. The person who answered one of our phone calls was not ready to let me even explain the situation. She was rude and sounded very annoyed from the get-go. Next time we called we were told the medicine was approved by the Doctor, but you were short staffed so couldn’t dispense the medicine. I understand if you are short staffed however there is a way to speak to other adults. You were not a part of the interactions. Rather than trying to make it seem like I, client at your clinic for over a year, was unreasonable, maybe you should focus on training your staff to be courteous and compassionate. During one of our conversations, your reception told us “No means No”. We were also told it was our responsibility to refill the medicine in advance. However, at that time, my dog had just got injured a day ago and soon after we called for the medication. I had no intention of giving any negative feedback publicly as the clinic has good doctors and would have continued to visit for my pet’s need. I wanted to contact someone else regarding my bad experience with the receptionist. I checked your website but the only phone number and email I could see goes directly to the receptionist. Obviously, I could not complain to the rude receptionist about her behavior. Hence, I had to leave a review here. I want to emphasize again the issue was not about getting the medicine on times but more about the lack of decency from your receptionist. I don’t want a response; would rather have you work on your staff’s mannerism.

I didn’t realize when healthcare was cut the vets followed. Shrink-flation affects vets too Last check up, the vet didn’t give my dog her regular set of vaccines and I only noticed when I got home and looked at the invoice. Vet said her teeth showed mild build up but when I went home I noticed one of her teeth was wobbly. This should have been discussed. My dog also gets sick every time she leaves this vet and ends up with bloody diarrhea. We get a checkup ($140) and get some vaccines ($) and poop test ($125), dog is fine and then in a few weeks bloody diarrhea, get another checkup ($140) and another poop test ($125) and go home with some antibiotics ($) and probiotics ($), and finally get the poop test results in a few days. If you choose to go to this vet, make sure you manage their tasks like training a new employee. You are the one that pays for their mistakes and oversights and talking to their receptionists feel like you’re calling Walmart to address missing items from your order Prescription power is the only reason why I keep going here Update: I asked if possible to dispense antibiotics without an exam since there was no space available for my pet to be seen. The only spot available was with a visiting vet and that same vet missed some vaccines as part of our routine checkup. I had not demanded antibiotics as I simply asked if it was possible. I also wondering how a pet could get them if no vet was available. I also asked about waiving the exam as we had just been there October 12 and her tooth decay was found soon after and her diarrhea starting December 20. I’ll let the reviewers decide if that is fair. I’ve never felt more penalized for asking a question before. Over 5 years, I have paid for every exam and re-exam and every testing offered in stages. Just because I denied some tests I should not be painted as a cheapskate owner. The vet recommended we start with one and do the others later if we don’t see results. People looking for new clinics are looking at reviews. If you’re not already at this clinic, know they’re already swamped and don’t have time for you. Thank you for sending your goodbyes. A functional clinic management system would sit and review with a client. I think it was apparent after 5 years and laying the dirt out here that I wouldn’t be returning. Thanks Melanie for all the times you were rude for no reason, replying to my email using the wrong name when my name is literally right there, for the time you refused to followup on a promise a vet made to me to email me an update, for always reluctantly asking staff for clarification because it was too much for you. Thank you to Dr Roman for being the only one I could trust but despite having mentioned I only wanted you, I keep getting other vets.

Recently changed vets to Dundas & Euclid and have been shocked by the level of attention and care we have been receiving relative to our prior vet. Extremely knowledgeable and empathetic and very open to answer all of our questions (I appreciate knowing what they’re looking for and seeing as they do the exams!) Couldn’t be happier or more grateful.
