How to Save Money at Town and Country Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I was recommended this vet by a friend who brings her puppy here. I just got a new puppy over the holidays and was able to make an appointment with the vet super quickly. Her and the staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They made the process very easy and answered all my questions. Would 100% recommend. Plus, the prices are super reasonable compared to other vets I’ve been to which is a huge plus!

Today was my first visit to Town and Country Animal hosptial. I recently decided to change my vet clinic as the one I was previously going to was a few cities away. The care was great, but now with a heavily pregnant dog, transporting my dog would pose to be very challenging, especially when the puppies are born. I decided to do research on clinics in the Stouffville area. I came across Town and Country Animal Hospital. The reviews were great; especially regarding customer service and pricing. I decided to give them a call and ask if they were taking on new clients. I booked an appointment for my dog to get an ultrasound and examination. I specifically asked for a quote when I called on November 11, 2024, at 4:44 p.m. i was quoted $140 for the examination and $90 for an ultrasound. I thought this was fantastic, given the pricing. I was specifically sold on the pricing, as it was cheaper than where I had shopped around. When I went into the vet today, staff were very friendly. Dr. Melissa was very kind, welcoming, and informative. Her and her team made me feel at ease and made my dog as comfortable as could be during the ultrasound proceedure. However, when it came time to pay for the invoice, the charges were close to $500. The ultrasound was not $90, it was listed as $290, which is a big difference. This cost was not accounted for. I did not want to dispute the invoice at time as it is an awkward conversation to have and one can come across as cheap and i just paid the invoice. However, this did not sit right with me. It is the principal and that is not what I was quoted. If I had know that this was going to be the price, I potentially would have chosen another vet. I did my due-diligence to ensure I was prepared for cost beforehand. Most people need to accounted for these types of expenses, as vet bills are not usually cheap. I came with a specific amount and mind, and paid $200 more than i was quoted. I decided to call the clinic and hour after I left. When speaking with a reception, I was told that this must have been an error at the time of booking. The receptionist was apologetic and informed me that she was unable to do anything about this error as she is not a manager. She explained that they could bring this situation up in future teams meetings. While i think this is a great learning opportunity for staff in future, this does not alleviate the unexpected costs that I have incurred. I did not recieve a call from the manager or any further updates on the situation. It was just an apology and the potential of new staff potential making an error. Again, while staff is friendly, welcoming, and informative, it kind of leaves me with a distrust for future interactions. My dog will need further on-going care, along with her litter of puppies. There are a number of cost I will need to account and if I can not rely on consistent pricing or to expect a specific cost, this will be a bigger issue for me. While I appreciate the staff's friendlyness, from a business perspective this is bad for business and an issue. This make me reconsider choosing this clinic. Errors over finances can cost clients going forward. The result I would like, is for my original quote to be honored. I would like this to be more than a learning opportunity, especially as a brand new client. This interaction sets a precedent

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Town and Country Animal Hospital, especially Dr. Melissa and all the wonderful assistants and front desk staff. ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ My cat, Gandalf, was really sick recently. He developed issues with both his knees and hips early this year and was scheduled for surgery in early July with a specialist. But then, all of a sudden, he became severely ill with constipation, followed by diarrhea and vomiting, refusing to eat or drink, and refused to go washroom. I had to bring him to the hospital every day, sometimes even twice a day. Everyone at Town and Country Animal Hospital was incredibly understanding and responsive during this urgent time with Gandalf. Thanks to their dedication and excellent care, Gandalf is much better after three weeks. I am deeply grateful for their patience, advice, and the compassionate care they provided. Today, I brought Gandalf in for a recheck, and they even gave me a card, which really cheered me up. It's a loving and caring place, and I am so glad Gandalf has them to help him. A special mention to King Animal Hospital and 404 Emergency Vet Newmarket for their kindness as well, they are great too! . ./| _ ╱|、 . |╰ ╯| . | /\ |

My fur baby Uzi has been treated so well by all the staff and our wonderful vet Dr. Melissa and Vet tech Carrie. We appreciate you!! There is a genuine care for my dog & his well being. Our little 7lb morkie needed surgery to remove a bladder stone. The surgery went flawlessly, and no complications during or after. Rocky says thank you to the surgeon, doctors and staff at Town and Country!
