How to Save Money at Ridgeway Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We trust taking our dogs here! They took great care of Henry over the years with his itching and skin issues.

Please do NOT go to this vet if you care about your animals. I brought my two cats here to get treated for fleas, the doctor we had was extremely careless and rough with my cats, I do not remember his name but he was male and of the indian race. For starters, he took my kittens temperature with an anal thermometer but did not bother fixing it even though it was in crooked, my kitten was crying in pain, and this happened both times we had come here. He also grabbed my bigger cat's ear very roughly, again, this also happened with my smaller cat the last time we came here, he twisted his ear inside out for God's sake and didn't even bother fixing it! And that is not even the worst part, once this horrible scene was over the staff accidentally switched the medicine for my huge tomcat to go to my tiny 4 month old kitten. If my mom hadn't caught on to that when she did my kitten might not even be here. Please use caution and find a different vet.

I’m extremely disappointed. I called last week to double-check that my cat’s medication and prescription food were ordered. I never received a call back. I called again today, only to be told it wasn’t ordered and that it was my fault. My cat has advanced kidney disease and getting her medications, fluids, and prescription food on time is critical. This isn’t the first time they’ve failed to have her things ready and my cat has had to go without her medication because of it. During a checkup I spoke with the vet directly, who assured me they would always have her supplies in stock moving forward. They kept that promise for about a month and then stopped without informing me, once again leaving me to chase them for her essential supplies. Today, feeling frustrated and stressed out that I wouldn’t get her medication on time, I asked Zoey to have someone call me back. Instead of helping, she told me vets don’t order food and that I should have called, ignoring the fact that I did call last week to check and never got a response. Later, Zoey called back and told me not to come back to the clinic at all. This clinic shows no accountability for their mistakes. They knew my cat’s condition, they knew how serious it was.. yet they failed her repeatedly. Do they really care about our pets?

Today my husband brought our dog to cut her nails, as couple of times before; the service and the experience were amazing the girl who helped us at that time was so Nice and professional, she did it fast and perfect, violet (my dog) didn’t cry or anything. But today was a horrible experience there with the girls who worked there, hurt my dog, she was crying, she did pee because she was scared and the nails were super short that’s the reason that she cried, they didn’t allow my husband to go in there like in the past he had to go in because he heard her what happened, they said that they did it properly but is a lie, we paid because the price is not the problem, we know is a service and we have to pay for it but if the members of the place don’t know how to do it, DON’T DO IT!!!!!
