How to Save Money at York Mobile Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Last week, our beautiful 14 year old Jack lost his ability to walk, and was panting and trembling. We called Dr. Khor, who had just been to our house the day before to help us set up pain meds for Jack, and within four hours, she arrived with her little blanket and drugs to help us let Jack pass painlessly in our home, in his comfortable bed. We had time to call our sons and daughter in law, and we were able to say goodbye to our boy without feeling rushed. Patricia explained the process, gave him a shot to make him comfortable, and when it was time, gave him his second shot to let him go. I lay beside him and felt his shaking legs calm, and his breathing slow. His legs had finally stopped shaking after doing so for the last 10 months. I truly felt his relief. After he passed, she left the house so that we could all say our last goodbyes. (At one point in time, we saw her wipe away her tears too). She then helped our sons cut some of Jack's fur and put it in little shot glass sized containers to keep forever. She also helped them shave his paw so that they could make a print to use for a tattoo. She came with support information and bereavement brochures to help us with our grief. She left us with a beautiful poem that basically was a thank you from a dog who was now not feeling any pain, helping us know that we made the right decision. I will never forget how wonderful this woman was, on our hardest day as a loving dog family. I also have to mention her assistant Louise, who also supported Jack in the past few months with check up and pain med visits. These two women are absolutely incredible . I highly recommend them to help support aging pets. If we end up getting a foster dog in the near future, they will be getting a call from us. Thank you Patricia and Louise. With love, The Papakyriakou family.♥️

I recently had the incredibly difficult task of saying goodbye to my beloved Border Collie, Blaze, affectionately known as Pooka Pants, who was 13.5 years old. In this challenging time, Dr. Khor and Louise from York Mobile Veterinary Services provided a level of care and compassion that went beyond what I could have hoped for. Dr. Khor's thorough examination and gentle demeanor immediately put both Pooka and me at ease. It was clear that their expertise was not just in veterinary medicine but in handling the emotional weight of such a decision. They explained everything in a way that was informative yet sensitive to the moment. The at-home service was a godsend, allowing Pooka to pass in the comfort of her own environment, surrounded by love. Louise, the RVT, was equally compassionate, offering support and kindness throughout the process. Their presence made a profoundly sad day feel as peaceful and dignified as it could be. Additionally, York Mobile Veterinary Services went above and beyond by taking care of all the after-life service arrangements. This spared me the additional burden during such a grief-stricken time, and I am incredibly grateful for their comprehensive care. I must also mention Audrey, the Customer Service Representative, whose kindness over the phone and continuous support in the aftermath provided an extra layer of comfort during this difficult period. I am deeply grateful for the professionalism, empathy, and care shown by Dr. Khor, Louise, and the entire team at York Mobile Veterinary Services. They handled our farewell with such grace, ensuring Pooka's transition was as smooth and pain-free as possible. If you are facing a similar situation, I highly recommend York Mobile Veterinary Services. They truly understand what it means to provide end-of-life care with passion and respect. Thank you, Dr. Khor, Louise, and Audrey, for helping us give Blaze the loving send-off she deserved.

I had to euthanize my dog last month very suddenly. I called and Dr. Khor picked up right away. I explained my situation and she was willing to come for an in home euthanasia after hours. She was really compassionate and caring. She made my dog really comfortable and explained the process and made sure we were all ready before she started. Highly recommend if you are considering an in home euthanasia.

A month ago, I had to saw goodbye to my dog, Zelda. Dr Khor was very compassionate in helping me make my decision to say goodbye to my ole gal, while respecting the space for the decision to be mine. When working with Dr Khor I couldn't help but be so moved by her compassion and generosity in supporting me through the process. Her compassion, medical experience/honesty, and professionalism made my decision so beautiful and rightfully mine to own and I was so grateful for Dr. Patricia Khor's guidance in helping me get to a place where I could say goodbye to my pooch with profound confidence and grace. Her gentle considerations make her one of the best veterinarians I've had the privilege of working with, and the level of trust that she was able to establish as a professional while respecting the emotional space and boundaries makes Dr. Khor one of the best in the biz. I can say that Patricia really loves animals and their owners and I could not recommend someone more as a resource for others in taking care of their pet at any stage in their journey together. Thanks again Patricia :)
