How to Save Money at Stoney Ridge Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

A couple of days ago I bought/rescued a Doberman doggo from a very bad neglected situation and the dog had obvious signs of neglect, but the most concerning thing was his leg, it was triple the size of his other leg and he had a very massive abscess that was festering and cutting off circulation. I immediately took him in the car the next day and started going to the vets in my area that take walk-ins because it was very clear it was a dire situation and he could lose the leg or die. Let me tell you NONE OF THE 4 CLINICS I went to would see him, they all outright refused to even take a consult and just take a look at him and told me to go to the emergency, in a perfect world I would 100% but unfortunately I did not have the funds for a emergency clinic and it was very obvious he was going to die if not treated, I practically begged but none would even see him even though they take walk ins, then I stopped at Stoney ridge and let me note that this is THE ONLY VET clinic with a policy of “no walk-ins” but I had to try, and guess what? The vet not only agreed to take the walk in but she actually saved his leg and tried to help me with the bill as much as she could. She was just outright amazing, professional, compassionate, nice, and most of all REALLY REALLY GOOD. Thank you doc, me and Harley owe you big time. Forever grateful because it’s clear that vets that are not in it for the money are very rare and Stoney ridge is that rare clinic.

I went back to Stoney Ridge after leaving for many years and was glad I did. But the new staff out front is very rude. She does not greet you, smile or make you feel welcome at all. I felt like I was interrupting her and I was a bother. I hate to leave again because of her because otherwise I love going there.

I really dont know how to say the extent of how much our family loves this place. Everyone is fantastic and this is what all vets should be like. Dr Brooks and Erin are amazing. They know what they are doing and truly love their job. I would and have recommended this place to anyone i talk to. My babies deserve the best and we found it. Thank you so much for everything 🐯🐶❤️

Incredibly amazing!!!You could not find a better vet for your pet. We have 2 senior dogs and Dr.Tracy Brooks is the best! She always has time to share and explain everything and anything in regards to our dogs. We are grateful that our 2 dogs have such a kind, compassionate, person who is their vet. Thank you Dr. Brooks!!!

Since Erin left the services has been terrible. Receptionist isn’t friendly very rude. I had an emergency and she kept putting me on hold and hanging up. Then she finally answered and she rudely asked my name and I told her how this was an emergency and she stated someone will call me which no one ever did. I had to take my dog to another vet instead who ended up helping me. I sent a email regarding the situation never heard back, called back next day the vet was kind enough to speak to me and understood where I was coming from. But made excuses for the receptionist it’s not hard to know common sense. Then my dog ended up vomiting large amount of blood from the same situation once again I couldn’t get a hold of anyone at the office and had to take him to another vet who were able to give him the treatment he needed they advised me to see our normal vet clinic the following day. I called and once again no answer and finally when I did get an answer she was rude and stated they won’t be able to see my dog because they are busy I explained to her that we were at the Hamilton region emergency and they advised me to have our dog seen my his vet. She rudely stated she will see if the vet can speak with me, which she did speak to me and was kind and went over everything with me over the phone but he wasn’t seen in person. We ended up going with another vet now due to this and they have yet to send our dog’s file over to his new vet. It’s been three months this is insanely rude and not helpful for our fur babies. Front of the office speaks volumes of your service of your office due to this we decided to leave this office I will miss Erin she was truly amazing please get an actual receptionist that actually cares for our fur baby not someone who is disrespectful and dismissive
