How to Save Money at Fenelon Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

While on vacation at my trailer my dog had just been groomed prior and his private was not retracting back inside. This has happened to him before 2 other times. Because it was a long weekend I didn’t want it to get infected and I was unable to fix it myself so I called this clinic and they were so friendly and nice and told me the doctor would fit him in between other pets as they were fully booked. I live in Pickering and I would travel here for my dog every time if I could. The vet was super nice and informative and hooked me up with a cone and gel for my dog. I highly recommend this animal clinic. My experience was wonderful with all the staff.

We are so grateful and thankful for the doctors and staff at the Fenelon Animal Clinic!!! Our Bear had some trouble with a porcupine this morning while at our trailer and was subsequently quilled. We are from Whitby, an hour and ten drive, and so is our Veterinarian office. We called Fenelon in a panic, understandably so, and they accommodated us immediately. They took him as soon as we arrived (11:10, 50 minutes before they close). Within minutes my husband was called with a breakdown of the procedure. He was then sedated and the quills taken out. We were given such detailed after care instructions when the procedure was completed that when asked if we had any questions, we did not. Thank you all, again, for taking such great care of our boy!!!

I am fairly new to this clinic and this is the best veterinary I’ve ever been to. Coming from the Toronto area and having been to several veterinarians, this is the best clinic hands down! Dr.Sarah and Dr.Farrell were completely amazing. Most caring, compassionate, and very professional. I’m so grateful that I found this place. My sweet girl Isha had to be put down and they got to the root of her problem right away. Instead of any run arounds! They were so kind and allowed us to take our time with our little darling before putting her to rest with dignity! I am forever grateful for them. Thank you so much to the doctors and the entire team at this clinic. Everyone is super awesome! Jacquie Ribeiro

We bring our two Great Danes here for their non-emergency appointments. The team at FAC is always very warm, welcoming, super accommodating, and provide the best routine care to both of our mighty and well-mannered giants. Whenever we have a concern Dr Nadya Farrell is very thorough, takes the time to explain all possible avenues of care (if needed) and takes the time to answer our questions. The team is also very consistent in following up with us when necessary. FAC is a wonderful and professional veterinary services team.

I called the clinic as our doodle had a sore inflamed paw and asked if a vet could see him today. We are on holidays at our cottage and dis not want to have to take him back to the city. The person I spoke with was so kind and said she would speak to vet as they were not taking on any new patients. Called back in 5 mins. and said they could take him as an emergency and I could bring him in. He was there for 2 hours and vet called me and explained what she thought it was and said I could come back and get him. Picked him up and was very surprised how reasonable the bill was compared to what we pay in the city. Everyone was so pleasant and very kind!
