How to Save Money at Hôpital Vétérinaire Embrun Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My husband and I moved to Embrun just before the height of Covid. Our dogs were patients at another vet, and had to travel to the next town over for check-ups, etc. During lockdowns when all vets were full and not taking anymore patients, my youngest dog, a Miniature Dachshund, began showing signs of back pain. We tried to get him an appointment at his current vet with no success and kept getting referred to the emergency. The situation escalated very quickly and within a few days, he lost mobility in his back legs. After continuously trying to book an appointment with his vet time and time again without getting anywhere (other than being told to bring him to the emergency, which we had already gone to twice), we decided to try our luck with the Embrun Veterinary Clinic. Although they weren’t taking anymore patients, they managed to find a way to assess my dog by booking him an appointment a few months away (which registered him as a patient in their system), then add us to a wait list for any cancellations. Within a day, they were calling us and telling us to bring our dog in. With their quick thinking and taking action, my dog was able to get the care, and eventually the surgery, he needed to get his legs working again. I will forever be grateful to the team at Embrun Veterinary Clinic for going above and beyond to ensure that my dog got the medical care he needed.

I had been having issues with my previous vet, having visited three times in the past year for my cat who was experiencing urine problems. Despite repeated courses of antibiotics, the issue persisted, leading to considerable expenses without resolution. Frustrated, I decided to take my cat to Embrun Veterinary Hospital to see if they could finally find a solution. The difference in service was night and day. The staff at Embrun were friendly and understanding, taking the time to listen to my concerns thoroughly. They provided possible diagnoses and treatment options, along with transparent pricing. In just one appointment, an x-ray revealed that my cat had four stones in her bladder. I was incredibly thankful and relieved to finally have an answer. The team at Embrun took the time to explain the medication regimen, the appropriate diet for my cat, and provided clear instructions. The price was reasonable for the outstanding service received. I highly recommend Embrun Veterinary Hospital. Their professional and compassionate approach made all the difference for my cat and I.

The staff and doctor are great. They have a spacious waiting room to ensure space between animals in case they are not social. My puppy enjoys her visits🫶🦮🐶

Their doctors, technicians, and administrators used to be out-of-this world, and I have thoroughly enjoyed their care, kindness, and professionalism. But, over the past year I have watched three doctors leave, nearly every technician, and the administrators all quit and go to other practices. Every time this vet has a staff turnover, I have to revisit old arguments to get the same medication administered, because each time they insist a doctor visit is required, which costs $120 a pop. Even though my dog has been taking the same medication for two years, has had blood works exams, and is seen twice annually by a doctor there, they still refuse to prescribe what is, for humans, over the counter. I just can't continue to give them hundreds of dollars for "consultations" that do nothing more than prove I actually have a dog who is still ill and injured. They are kind, for sure, but they also seem to have policies that elevate profit over compassion.

I am always pleased with the care my puppy gets here! Everyone is very kind and helpful, and makes sure that Dixie is up to date on everything! I have been coming here for many years now, and they have helped me with some very difficult situations. For that I am most grateful!! Thank you so much for all of your care, and keeping my pups, (past and present), safe.
