How to Save Money at Three Islands Veterinary Services
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I will never ever take my cat back here. This place is not only completely unprofessional about their appointment times, but they also went against our wishes for our cat as its owners and administered the incorrect dosage of medication. We went back to see our regular vet and the medical records (which this place said they would provide) were not provided until an entire month later. Our vet knew they gave my cat only a fraction of the dose of his medication he normally gets, which was making my cat’s condition worse. In addition, we received (in part) an incorrect diagnoses and were basically lied to. Lastly, they did not even bother to return our regular vet’s calls, and have not done so for ages now. Do yourself a favour, steer very clear of this place. They care about manipulating you into essentially handing them all your money, and that’s it. They put on a good act though. I’m scared to think of what would happen if we went back again, since they were fully willing to take it upon themselves to administer whatever dosage they wanted to.

I took my dog there 6 weeks ago for a lump. They suggested removing which I called to get an appt to get removed. Took them over a week to get back to me then gave me an appt 6 weeks later? Yes she had the lump for over 6 months but it was size of quarter and never bothered her and never grew. I took her there and was told if it wasn't bothering her to leave it originally so I did. When I called for surgery, I was given an estimate that was good for 90 days for $620. I called twice within last 5 weeks to tell them it was bothering her and it was growing and could I get something for her. They gave me antibiotics that did nothing for her and it kept growing. By the time I took her for surgery it was the size of plum and they increased the price to $1130 almost double?? I am sorry but that is ridiculous and gauging. What happened to quote was set for 90 days. Funny it never grew in 6 months and then all of a sudden doubled in size in 6 weeks?? Im frustrated they doubled the price . I took her there at 9am, didn't leave until 9:30am and they called me at 11:07am to say she was done and just woke up from her anesthetic . So a surgery for what 30 min (if that) was $1130? Sorry but this vet is not compassionate they only care about money.

We have two Maine Coons, and we were trying to get a fabulous vet and found Three Islands. Since day one, they have been great! I don't understand people who are commenting "don't take your pets there", blah blah! Dr. Dave & staff are professional and go into detail what is going on with your pets. We went to other vets that said our Max had stomatitis and his teeth would have to be pulled out. Dr. Dave said it is "juvenile gingivitis" and not stomatitis. They are compassionate, plus if you think the cost is high, well you shouldn't have got a pet if your can't pay for the vet bill. Visiting the vets is expensive, BUT you people complaining should keep your mouth shut and STOP bashing this place. Thank you Three Islands, see you soon in July for Max and Jack's shots etc. ****another review for Three Islands Vet, our Jack had serious infections in his mouth caused by auto-immune disease. Dr. Jessica was kind and compassionate in explaining Jack's situation which required teeth removal. Totally professional, and gave us much time! We trust her judgement in a very difficult situation, we know that Jack was in the best hands possible. Thank you everyone!
