How to Save Money at Simcoe Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
If I could give this a NO star, I would. The absolute worst experience with a veterinary clinic in all my life. Not an ounce of compassion, just all about the money. My 89 year old mother took in a neighbours older cat 9 months ago, due to the neighbour going to the hospital. This was only supposed to be for a few weeks but the neighbour never came back out. Last week the cat started having difficulties breathing and was not eating or drinking. When my mother took her to this clinic with a friend, they injected the cat with two different needles and sent her home after paying over $300.00. Today, after three days of this poor creature barely breathing and still not eating or drinking, I took my mother and the cat back to this clinic to have her euthanized. Due to the cats age, 20+ years, and her condition. Respiratory malfunction along with not eating or drinking. The noise coming from this poor cat breathing was beyond heartbreaking and unbearable. The clinic told me it would be another $450+ to have this done. When I asked if they could consider some sort of discount due to my mother on government pension and the previous visit she just paid for, they responded no right away. It’s not like I asked for this service to be free just a little help for my mother. I found them to be heartless and cold and thank goodness this is NOT the vet I use or would ever recommend. I paid the bill for my mother because I could not see this poor creature suffer any longer than possible or the heartbreak my mother went through all weekend due to the lack of professionalism and empathy from this clinic. Not sure why euthanizing was not an option the first visit, except maybe for the $$$$ they charged.

Bad communication, especially regarding pricing and treatment plans. Felt on multiple occasions that our concerns were not actually being addressed. Conflicting advice from appointment to appointment on the same issue and lack of knowledge about our pet when they called to talk about our owy or appontments. We gave it a long chance using a health plan for a year because there had been a bunch fo staff turnover, but will not go back.

I dropped my huge dog off writhing in pain and confusion and picked him up all fixed up! All staff worked together to save my best friend. Several times! So patient and calm in the mist of a crisis. They are truly Saints! My animals LOVE them all as well! Great Team!

The staff here specifically Dr. Mikkyla Reid and Melissa Melick were both very positive, intelligent, and compassionate individuals that made our time with this clinic even better. The prices for their services were comparable to most places, although some places have higher prices and some lower. We found them very fair and also very upfront with everything. We never felt pressured by their staff and were always given time to make our decisions. All records were given after every visit detailing what was done. This was a great practice for informing and communicating with the clients.

We had been taking our cats to this Clinic since about 2017, Had a very good experience with Dr. Spring (she left to open her open practice) and then had Dr. Mikkyla Reid who is a great veterinary doctor as well. The only reason we stopped bring our Cat here was because in his old age he didn't like the long travel to make it to this clinic. The price's here were fair and better than some other practices such as Baywood South which were experiencing as much higher costs than most places in the neighbourhood. The team always took great care of our cat and showed lots of love. Also the transparency at this clinic was top notch. Everything was always documented for us and readily available. We even switched to their app which gave us even more transparency to all of our tests that were performed on our cat. If this practice was closer we would have stayed here. Again the openness and willingness to show so much transparency was amazing to have. Didn't realize how great that was until we lost it.
