How to Save Money at Brookstone Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love Brookstone Animal Hospital. Both of my dogs go there for their health care. The staff are really nice and caring. The Veterinarians are very knowledgeable, professional and nice. I would highly recommend Brookstone for the care of your animals. Thank you

The doctors and the staff are always amazing… Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our nine-month-old puppy. I cannot say enough about how loving, respectful, and patient the staff was with us at 6 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Dr Long did such a wonderful job, helping us come to terms with the decision that we had to make. I could tell that he truly was in the moment with us, which helped me know that when my other pups are there him and the staff care for them, as if they are part of their family as well. Even though they had worked all day and we’re ready to go home, they did not rush us through the process. And the love respect and care they gave to our sweet Therapy when it was time to prepare him to sent him home with us was just incredible. If you were looking for a veterinarians office that you can feel confident in Brookstone animal hospital is definitely where you want to be.

Brookstone Animal Hospital is awesome. Dr. Jordan West is the best.. He has been our fur baby's and her puppies Dr for as long as I can remember. He is very thorough and explains everything and made sure we understood everything. The front office staff and Dr assistants was great also. I give Brookstone a 10 out of 10. I would definitely recommend to my family and friends. Actually my daughter brings her fur babies to Brookstone she recommended them to me.

This was my first visit and I saw Dr. West and his tech (I wish I could remember her name but she was awesome). I had the best two people working with my dog, Cowboy. I had to bring my young kids with me so it wasn’t the most ideal situation but they were so amazing and patient. I also had a ton of questions which were answered thoroughly. I have had some not so great experiences with vets in the past and Brookstone has renewed my faith in animal care.

We LOVE Brookstone Animal Hospital!!! Through the years, we have gotten to know well Dr. Hiers, Dr. West, & Dr. Mizell! We have gone there for well-check appointments & baths, Rx food & meds, & for my mom’s dogs to board when she visited (they were aggressive to our fur babies). We have also gone there in crisis for emergent surgeries on one of our dogs & on one of our cats years later. We have, sadly, had to go there for end-of-life farewells when our Weimaraner got bloat a second time as a 16 year old & she was just too frail to withstand the surgery again. Each time we go to Brookstone Animal Hospital, we have been treated with professionalism & respect, but also as family. They make us feel so special & have always make all of our fur babies feel comforted & 🤗 . They have a special room just for cats & both of ours do well there, but we’ve also done joint appointments with our dogs & cat (before we had the second kitty rescue). They also helped pave the way for us to adopt our German Shepherd. There’s no doubt, she loves going to Brookstone Animal Hospital! When we’re out walking by, she veers toward it, thinking we should drop by for a visit, & she is always overjoyed to walk through the doors! Yes, vet care is expensive &, despite all our pets being adoptions/rescues, there is no such thing as a free fur baby. We used to go to a different vet & switched to Brookstone Animal Hospital many years ago because their pricing was comparable & their location couldn’t be more convenient. Once we saw/felt their heart & soul & love for our fur babies, we were sold. We have been there for many many years now, have shared them with lots of friends & neighbors who love them too, & are so grateful to have them here!
