How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My precious pup has been a patient of the Banfield Family since I got him at 7 weeks old. He started coming to this location in 2017 when we moved. During Covid, they went through some Dr. Changes and things were weird for about a year or two but because he had only been with Banfield and we always had great experiences, I stuck it out. In 2022 things leveled out with Dr. Scariano coming on board. She is super knowledgeable and nice so we stayed. On September 10th I brought him in as an emergency fearing the time had come to say goodbye after 16 wonderful years. The front office staff immediately consoled me and the vet techs were amazing (I really hate that I don’t remember their names but they were both awesome)!!! Dr. Sexton came in and talked to us and gave us our options. She was clear, concise and compassionate and let me make the choice to say goodbye by providing me with all of the information in order to make that difficult decision. She then thanked and consoled me for making the decision that my fur baby could not make for himself. I cannot thank her enough for her kindness and professionalism on one of the hardest days of my life. He usually sees Dr. Bell who is equally amazing and help to extend his life another year plus with her recommendations, but she was not working that day. However, Dr. Sexton took great care of our chihuahua Stylz in his final moments and for that I will be eternally grateful to her and the staff. I didn’t think I would want his ashes but I am so appreciative for the act of kindness bestowed on us because I just was simply a wreck while planning his final moments! Thank you so much to the staff that worked on 9/10 and the staff that was working when I came to gather his things on 9/13. Your hearts are amazing and will never be forgotten! The Stephenson Family

My dog Theo had an emergency where in the end his eye needed to be taken out. It was around 11 o’clock at night when I arrived at Banfield, and I am so happy that I went to this pet hospital. The level of compassion and professionalism that I experienced was amazing and they took such good care of Theo they worked with me with the price of his eye surgery and I was able to get him the next morning after I dropped him off overnight such an amazing staff. I really enjoyed the doctor, vet tech, and csr that I worked with will be returning very soon. 🥰

Do not take your pet here unless you have no other choice… took my kitten in for a possible broken leg, to find out he had a spiral fracture. Vets did not even bother to wrap his leg once i received the x-ray but charged me over $500. When i talked to a surgeon specialist THEY REFERRED… they questioned me as to why his leg was not wrapped or splinted to prevent further injury before surgery… They recommended me call them back… i did… I asked if they could wrap his leg and they said no. Could not give me any good reason as to why and told me to ask some other vet to wrap it…. I spent days trying to find someone to help me, and finally found Lake City Animal hospital in acworth, they also questioned me as to why the leg was not wrapped… they were able to wrap the leg securely and use a splint as well as get more x-rays and recommend holding off on surgery to see if it would heal. nonetheless… DO NOT USE BANFIELD!!! I had them as my primary vet for my dog and cat and I will never again…!!!

Never been to this store this is for the company itself. I would NOT recommend! They put you on a contract which should have been a red flag for me, but now for the past 2 months I've been being charged on 2 separate cards for 2 different prices and every time I call them to dispute the false charge they pretend like they can't see it then tell me I need to send statements in and then they have yet to respond back to my emails. My dog hasn't even been seen by them this year! And they haven't even addressed the actual issue that made me sign a contract with them. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY they are not worth it.

My dogs were seen in woodstock and when banfield went to pretry much only doing drop off appointments during COVID, I decided to start bringing them here since it was closer to the house I lived in then. For 2 years one of my dogs had elevated blood work and I was not told, the vets here never seemed to think it was an important to tell me. My old two dogs had been seeing banfield since I got them in 2015 and now I'm in the tough spot of having to find a new vet.
