How to Save Money at Nona Village Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot sing the praises of Dr. Hernandez and the team at Nona Village Vet Hospital loudly enough. I brought them a very sick puppy and they truly worked miracles on him, quite literally saving his life. I took my Basset Hound, Papi, to a low-cost clinic for him to be neutered and have an umbilical hernia repair. Unfortunately, my puppy ended up with a life-threatening post op infection within 36 hours. I promptly took Papi to a popular emergency clinic over the weekend, but they did not offer much assistance. They simply advised it would be more cost-effective to provide euthanasia (to a 14.5 month old puppy!). When we arrived at Nona Village that Monday morning, Papi's abdomen had literally ruptured open from the infection. Dr. Hernandez immediately admitted Papi and started him on the much-needed IV medications. Papi was in the hospital until the infection resolved enough for Dr. Hernandez to operate and close Papi's abdomen again. Dr. Hernandez had to completely redo the hernia repair and debride the disgusting wounds the other clinic caused. I don't think Google will allow me to post pictures of the condition of my puppy's abdomen when he was admitted to the care of Dr. Hernandez, so I will simply share our happily ever after pictures instead. Quality veterinary care is NOT cheap, but please learn from my mistake and do things right the first time. It is NOT worth risking your pet's life to possibly save some money. Papi visited Nona Village Vet Hospital this morning for his annual vaccines and a follow up visit. Papi was so happy to see everyone again. They clearly treated him like a Prince, because he insisted on making the rounds to say hello to every team member. (Although, I will admit that Papi was not happy that Johan said we needed to scale back on the treats!)

I have only been in once but I plan on making this our new veterinary hospital. I had my baby spayed somewhere else a week before and she seemed fine until all of a sudden she wasn't. I called them and explained the situation and that I didn't want to drive her way across town to the original vet. This clinic is so close to my house, I wish I had known about it sooner!!! They were more than happy to work us in, even last minute on a Friday afternoon. They took such excellent care of my fur baby, they explained everything in a clear manner and made sure I understood what was going on and all the medication instructions before I left. I have already scheduled her follow up visit with them❤️❤️ Picture just because she's cute lol

I am so grateful for Nona Village Veterinary Hospital for their great service, empathy, and care. My family and I recently moved to the area and have not found a veterinarian for our pets yet. Our one dog Lou gave us a surprise and when we called Nona Village to see if he could be seen they said absolutely and scheduled a same day appointment. I was shocked and thankful for this as it is difficult to schedule a new patient for any kind of care. Lou ended up having an emergency and I called to see if it was possible to come in before our scheduled appointment and they immediately said yes. Everyone that I spoke to was so amazing at Nona Village— they were so beyond kind and calming. Doctor Hernandez was the best!! Lou ended up having to go into surgery and as it was so scary I knew Lou was in the best care possible. I thought the price of Lou’s visit was more than reasonable, the hospital was beautiful and clean, and again I can’t rave enough about the staff. I am happy to say that I have found my veterinarian for all of my pets! Thank you Nona Village for taking such great care of Lou!!

I took my Golden Retriever puppy for a check up and he wasn’t feeling well. The vet and staff were amazing, kind, caring and when he took a turn for the worse acted immediately and knew just what he needed to get him back to health. This will be my vet because I know my pets are in great care.

They are absolutely wonderful at Nona Village Vet. I needed an appointment for my Pom, but there wasn't anything available for a few days. Soon after I made the appointment, the lovely front desk lady called me right back to offer a much earlier appointment for her. I was very appreciative. Also, the vet is absolutely wonderful. I had taken my Pom to him a few months back, and he was so gentle and kind to her. She's had a lot of anxiety, and he totally showed ease and gentleness. Very much recommend this Vet's office.
