How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I took my cats here for their shots, checkup, and importantly a flea infestation. I was a bit nervous because I had to do a drop-off and leave them which I’ve never done before, but the team was extremely helpful, knowledgeable & kind to my pets. The nurse took everything I said seriously and was very thorough with her notes. She was upfront with general costs and answered all of my questions honestly. She explained to me which procedures may be considered optional, and which are more needed, and saved me a lot of money. The vet later called me and explained everything in detail, about his findings, the medication, prevention methods for fleas/worms, etc. and then I went to pick them up. The nurse also took time explaining the medication to me & how to give them it. When I was getting ready to leave, she even remembered small details about what I said about their personalities :) It was very apparent the team cares a lot about the pets that are brought in and under their care. They asked specific details about each of the 3 cats to make sure they had everything in order to help and get the personal care they needed. They were all very nice and reassuring, and my cats all came back happy and settled right back in. I believe I also received a discount for taking multiple pets in at once, although I didn’t follow up on it when checking out. Overall I really do recommend this place! The team treated my cats as if they were their own. Super sweet & knowledgeable team :)

Took my two cats for checkups and shots. Usually they are freaked out going to the vet, but they were very mellow on the ride home. Very friendly staff.

If you love your pet, don't bring them here. They will always tell you to leave your pet there for whatever service or treatment you came in for. Once you drop off your pet, they just become a number. I took my dog there twice, and both times, they never called me once to tell me to pick up my dog. I always had to call in to check on the status to see if they were done with my dog. My main point is they would rather throw your pet in a cage, neglect them, and forget about them. Mind you, the bills are not cheap here, but the quality of the service is very poor. -5 stars is my rating. This is why they tell you to leave your pet here because if you waited with your pet, you would be very pissed off at their attentiveness. And the disregard for people's time. They could care less about your day. Both times I took my dog here was the same experience. The lack of care that they have here is unbelievable. I will never take my dog to any Banfield Pet Hospital again. I highly recommend you don't take your pet here and put them through this nightmare Hospital. Read the comments, read all the warnings and go there at your own risk!!

I want to thank Dr. Salinas and Wilmarie Bobbi at Banfield for the amazing care they gave to my dog, Calvin. They were able to see him last minute, which gave us so much peace of mind. Not only did they take great care of him, but they also took the time to answer all of our questions thoroughly and with so much patience. What stood out the most was how human, kind, and genuinely helpful they were throughout the visit. It’s clear they really care about both their patients and the pet parents. I am so grateful for their compassion and professionalism, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for veterinary care.
