How to Save Money at Animal Veterinary Hospital of Orlando

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Have been a client here since 2006, this is absolutely the best practice in Orlando if not all of Central Florida. Dr. Bruce and his staff are rock stars. They are always kind and professional and have given us the best care for our pets. Their pricing is fair and on point and you can guarantee they will never charge you for something you don’t need and they give you facts about your pet’s health very straightforward which is so valuable and appreciated. I absolutely consider the staff and Dr Bruce a part of our family.

He makes going or calling the vet a wonderful experience, even in moments of distraught he finds a way to make you feel understood and his patience is beyond. Thank you to you and to the whole vet office for treating our fur kiddos with so much love. Dr. Bruce thank you for being kind and so informative to us and explaining everything that we need to do in order to make sure our fur kiddos are safe and healthy. Thank you all!

Yesterday at around 9:14am I called to the clinic because my dog was acting odd and didn’t want to eat or move, they receptionist told me wait because she needed it to ask the doctor who was just getting out of surgery and a few seconds later she came back to tell to come right away which I did, as soon I got there there were other dogs waiting there and they asked me to go in right away because it was an emergency, the staff treat my baby (dog) like it was their own with so much care and love, the doctor came and he checked in her and it was straight to with answers and told what could possibly be and then proceeded to do some tests on my pet, after a few test he came back and told me what it was treated her and gave her some medication to go home last night my dog was back on walking and this morning she look so much better and like herself. Thanks to the whole staff and the doctor for caring so much

The staff here are actually really nice, they are always loving on all the cats I have brought here which is really nice. I think they help out a lot and get you in pretty fast. Bruce gets your animal in and out which is cool too. I recommend coming here.

Customer Service is not good. The people who handle the front desk answering the phones are rude. I asked a question is there a Dr visit each time you come to the Office and the lady acted like this was a debate and start explaining how you pay Dr visits when you visit your Doctor. I did have to refrain once again and state I am not debating I am just asking a question. This is the second time I have gotten a rude person to assist me by phone. I have been to the Office several times with my Pugs and it don’t get any better. I don’t know if it is just certain people they show high regards to them others. But I would say they are racist, arrogant and not so friendly. One time visiting the assistant to the Dr called my pet puppy pug a thing when referring to her. I didn’t say anything. I like to observe and see if what I am experiencing is true and it is. The Dr once told me that they are trying to ban breeding pigs because of sos and so and I am like okay they made the dogs and now they want to stop making what they made like if this is my problem because I have Pugs. Anyway I have tried and I will take my services elsewhere. Not gone continue to pay for services as if this is the only vet around. I just like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but when it’s repetitive and it’s the staff in general that is rude and unfriendly it says a lot about the Office as a whole and manner in which they treat certain people of color. All dogs and animals come in different colors that they see so we should not see color as an issue but that don’t stop prejudice practice like the Office staff and Doctor who leads by example. Blue Pearl May cost more but the service, compassion and empathy is 5 stars.Appreciate your call back Sonya to see if we were booking but no thank you. I have had enough mistreatment for my money lol
