How to Save Money at Bartow Main Street Low Cost Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Super easy to get a new patient appointment with this clinic. It was about 2 weeks out from when I called, which I feel is reasonable. When I came in for the appointment they took us back immediately and ran all the tests they felt were necessary for my cat and we were in/out of the clinic within an hour. It was also extremely reasonable pricing wise. Will definitely come back for more services in the future!

Staff was very nice. Price was very reasonably. No one in waiting room going in or leaving but still ran 1 hour behind. The doctor was elderly and not interested in animals, not informative and not personable. I am not sure if there is other doctors there as an alternative. It would be an inexpensive place to get vaccinations but maybe not for medical issues.

We took our dog here because we recently rescued him off the streets and wanted to give him a checkup. The first guy was super nice but we could barley understand him and all he did was weigh him and take his temperature. After that we walked over to Doctor Kia and they put him on a table and he mumbled everything he said. Did not hear a single thing and said he was fine. The dog is clearly malnourished and has fleas and needs some shots.

A friend of mine fell into an unfortunate situation when her litter of pups came down w parvo. She brought them to an emergency vet where they confirmed the virus and sent her home basically without supportive medical supplies to watch them die as she was unable to afford the treatment. She was clearly upset. I stepped in to assist, calling around to local vets and medical supply places trying to purchase the needed items to fight the virus from home. Not one place could offer direction nor saline/IV lines that the puppies so desperately needed - by this time 1/4 pups had passed with the next close to passing. As a last ditch effort, I went to the Bartow Main Street low cost vet clinic and was met by a lady with a kind smile at the desk. I explained the situation, and low and behold a miracle. She explained they weren’t allowed to give out supplies, but checked her back room anyhow, returning with a few items stating they must have been donated and that it would be ok to give them to me. I offered to pay and she declined saying that donations weren’t counted as inventory. We lost the 2nd pup that day, he was too far gone. However, we started the last 2 remaining pups on fluid and syringe fed food around the clock hoping they would pull through. The virus literally took them to the edge of death but then all of a sudden began to bounce back rapidly. There’s no doubt in my mind that with out proper supplies for pushing fluid the other two pups wouldn’t have made it. We are so grateful for the huge heart this clinic has. You have instilled hope into my friends who were traumatized by the experience and given 2 puppies a chance at life! Thank you.
