How to Save Money at Animal Hospital of Colorado

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Been taking my dogs here since they were puppies! They LOVE going to the vet which speaks to how amazing the staff is. They have been so helpful as a first-time dog owner. They are always patient and answer any questions I have!

Friendly staff. Great, realistic advice. My dogs actually enjoy going to the vet. They are so excited to see all the staff and Doctors. This facility is further from our home but so worth the extra drive for us to get great care for our pets.

Took my new shelter dog here and he was treated like the king he is! They worked hard to make us feel comfortable and heard. I got good quality care for a reasonable price.

We are desperate to find a reputable veterinarian that specializes and understands the horrific conditions and treatment rescues have endured. We as rescuers never know and are horrified if you are even told of the unfortunate, painful, miserable life they lived until people like myself, and many other’s are blessed to give them of the life they so desperately deserve. When looking on Google, AHC seemed to be a great fit because the word “rescue” matched. LET THIS BE KNOW… I am not a current client so all is clear. I do my due diligence in reading other clients reviews. If you are like me, we love to see the glowing reviews especially when it comes to taking care of family members, rather it be human or 🐾🐾. In all of my review searches, regardless if it’s for a restaurant, Dr’s office or a place to take your kiddo for a birthday party. We read exceptional, good, bad or…. When the reviews of the consumer aren’t always the best, we like to see the response and how the Company handles them. At least for me this helps with my decision on if I’m going to proceed with their services or go elsewhere. With all of the responses that AHC gave their clients, I was not impressed by any means. Instead of saying what 99.9% of other Company’s comments on apologizing, asking if they could try and come to a resolution somehow to help make their clients feel better (even when they, the clients are seemingly in the wrong) and rectify their complaints. AHC went right to defensive mode and seemed to blame the customer and do nothing to help resolve their cry for help, complaints or even questions. On one comment from AHC, I believe it started off with responding with (don’t quote me) them having diarrhea of the mouth with their complaint. I was really looking forward to giving AHC a chance but after reading only the responses from them on a complaint and the way they handled it. I decided after not much thought I will not be using this company. Myself, I am in the medical field. I couldn’t even imagine saying some of the things, actually any of the things they responded with to their patients. This place managed to try and turn it around, not take any blame but made sure all of negative comments that came in were all attacked and literally blamed for the way they, the patients were treated. I hope things have changed since all of the complaints I read were made. Still searching for the needs my rescues deserve🐾❤️🐾💙🐾

This is Lexi. She passed away after having some tests from Dr. Boehmer and since she died he didn’t think it was worthwhile to share the results with me or refund my money for results I didn’t receive. They didn’t even bother to call me to say sorry that she passed. He got smart with me and said “she died of Lymphoma” and that’s all I know. I would not recommend using a credit card with their payment system. I have had to file a complaint with the State Veterinarian Board. Go elsewhere for Lexi’s sake!
