How to Save Money at Creekside Animal Clinic LTD

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am very impressed with the amount of care that we received from this vet during my cats dental surgery. My husband and I were both very nervous and each staff member went out of their way to make us fully informed to make the right call. They even brought us in to show me how to do a saline flush after surgery and the technician was so patient and kind. They handled midnight with such care and Dr. Rijnen did such a great job, worked very fast on her teeth and was very friendly and comforting to talk to post surgery. The front desk girls were professional and very friendly as well! We will Definetly recommend this clinic to others. Thank you!!

Very friendly and courteous! Willing to work with any budget! They care more about the pet, than they do the finances!

(Gross photo warning- sick canine feces.) We brought our 6 month old puppy in on October 17th, presenting with constant regurgitation and bouts of diarrhea, occasionally containing blood with a jelly-like substance. For a month and change, this vet jerked us around by totally skipping the most basic diagnostic procedures and rushing into x-rays, suggesting ultrasounds, biopsies, and specialists. On multiple occasions we had booked the dog for these basic procedures (specifically bloodwork and feces tests) and each time, they simply decided not to do the tests. No call, no confirmation, nothing. Not a peep. Did not even call me to let me know that my puppy was done, instead just let him sit there all day until I panicked and called 10 minutes to closing time. I had to inquire about the results, only to find out that the vet "looked at the sample (of bloody diarrhea, the exact sample shown in the photos attached) and thought it was "normal and didn't see any reason to test it." The reason for not performing bloodwork was "we didn't want to poke him unnecessarily" well, I'm no expert but I think being sick for a month, having no appetite, regurgitating and sh**** blood is reason enough. The real kicker here is that they would then turn around and suggest to us that we bring the dog back for an additional appointment to actually do the tests. Is this some kind of joke?? We eventually dropped this vet and found a new one who actually did the fecal exam which showed that the dog had a virus that could have been treated over a MONTH ago. This stupid nonsense unnecessarily extended the suffering of our young dog and cost so much money- and for what? When I asked them about antibiotics, they did not want to give it to him. I do not recommend this vet- I feel strongly that their bottom line is money. Even when I was on the phone with them with such basic tasks as adding my phone number or name to the file, supposedly adding it as we spoke- only to find out later that they never even did it? Really?? They need to change their phone recording and drop the stupid line of "we are the most expensive for a reason" because they are expensive, sure, but they don't care about your pet.

Had my cat in for a health concern, suggested treatment did not work so I went back with a simple question, and was told someone would get back to me. 5 days later still no response, so I went back in and spoke with the same woman at the front desk. When I mentioned I had considered just going somewhere else, she merely shrugged, put her hand up and said "well.....". As if to say "well, it doesn't matter to me". Afterwards she brought up my file, explained that a doctor had looked at it and commented.....yet no reason given as to why I was not contacted again. I'm sure the doctors there are excellent, but the customer service I received (or lack thereof), leaves a lot to be desired. As a result I will look elsewhere for treatment and help with my senior cat.
