How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Salt Spring Veterinary Services

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Have trusted Dr Bond (sr and jr) for all of my cats and dogs for many years… they are kind, compassionate, helpful and down to earth! Absolutely love them!

kind compassionate family centered care. The team at the SSI Veterinary clinic are professional, dedicated, and specialized in the care of animals and compassion and understanding to their owners. I can not say enough to emphasize how deeply I appreciated the willingness to take the time needed (even outside of hours) to talk to me about my dog. I was given clear and easy to follow directions, medication, and a number to call if I had further concerns or issues. The staff in the office were so helpful and kind, and supported me to support my animal. Way to go Bond clan and team you guys are amazing and I am thrilled that my pet has a place in your books!

I've been told that Dr. Bond is excellent, and my cat doesn't like the other vet on the island. I called to see whether I could start bringing my cat (and new puppy) to them, and was brusquely told that not only are they not taking new clients and have a large wait list, but that they refuse to take clients who want to leave the other vet. When I told them that the other vet overdrugged my cat, and that he hates them, I was told that there are vets in Victoria or Duncan who would take me. That's a pretty heartless thing to say given how poorly most cats do being transported. So the moral of the story is that I'm sure Dr Bond is great, but his receptionist could use some lessons in social interactions, and that their policy to not take clients from the other island vet is nonsensical.

I can't say enough about the wonderful staff and knowledge at this clinic. Dr's Bond go above and beyond to ensure that both you and your pet are comfortable and as stress free as possible. I travel from Nanaimo and the clinic always accommodates me based on which ferry I need to be on. My sister also lives in Nanaimo and has her dog with the Bond's. She was not at the ferry in time to make her sailing. Harold was in line for the ferry that my sister was suppose to be on so he took my sisters dog from her and over with him so that Ty would not miss his surgery.

Dr Bond(s) are caring and thorough veterinarians. Their practice is in the heart of Bonacre Farms and is a beautiful country setting with a full service Clinic & Surgery. Our dog wasn’t eating (5 days) and had blackish diarrhea. We called on Victoria Day (closed) and shortly after we got a call back from Dr Bond Sr who told us to bring him in right away. He took blood and stool samples for analysis and started a treatment for possible GI infection. Next day we received a follow up call with nothing conclusive but continued antibiotics. Dr Bond stated in touch every day and we came back to the clinic every day to get him examined. This was a mystery problem but what impressed me the most is Dr Bonds tenacity and concern for our dog - this wasn’t about money. We are still wrestling with our dogs condition but Dr Bond is still coming up with treatment options. The truly amazing part is that our dog comes to this clinic with his tail up and wagging. He has no fear of this clinic and has had a few needles at this location. I would heartedly recommend this veterinarian.
