How to Save Money at Bellevue Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was over the moon happy when I called from the parking lot, they were ready-said come on in. Duke & I were out of there in under 20 minutes. He had his annual exam, boosters, rabies vaccines & ear exam…. All for under $250.00!!! I’ll recommend Bellevue Veterinary Hospital to everyone. Very pleasant visit. Thank you.

My dog passed away last night. I called Bellevue today about cremation services. The staff was so respectful of both Artemis and myself. She was young to pass but the kindness showed by all the staff was appreciated. I can not say thank you enough!

When i went in to go get my cat spayed, I was not quoted how much id be paying until the end even though i asked if i could do a payment plan, which, btw you have to pay in full and was only met with that information when i went in there after asking in an email if i could (they saw the email but told me i couldn't when i went in there for my cats appointment which is extremely sketchy). When i got my bill it was $800 to spay her, i asked for a itemized bill because the number was just way to high, to be met with a “spay and neutering” charge that was $450 instead of the $350 i was quoted on the phone when i made the appointment. When i asked about it, i was met with the most rude woman who kept telling me to get an adult… i am an adult and was the one paying, plus the one she quoted, anyways when i asked about the sudden up charge they said they started charging $100 more in the last few days… i made my appointment before they decided to do that, they never informed anyone over the phone or through email so i made them take off the charge, they knew they were up-charging $100 more, than wouldn't even talk to me at first when i asked about it. The receptionist was a blessing and calmed me down when they wouldn’t bring me my cat though! Just keep an eye out and always ask for an itemized bill if you decide to use this vet, which i highly recommend you don't

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Reasonable, caring and knowledgeable assessments of my three pets. Always clean and organized. Follow-ups done. This would be a good model for human medical issues which is sadly lacking. I have referred others. Thank you for your expertise.

I tried to take my injured dog there, but was informed when I arrived that it was an appointment only service and not truly a "hospital" which I don't believe was really clear on the website. Anyway, they were pleasant and directed me to another facility. Thankfully my dog was not in distress at the time. I was visiting from another part of the Island.
