How to Save Money at Gibsons Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
My dog, Red, has instructed me to give a five-paw review to Dr Jesse and Dr Herschel. I also give five stars from me. There is a transparency to procedures and prices here that I have not encountered at other practices. You can tell they try hard to keep prices down as services here are regularly under Vancouver prices, while many other services on the coast seem to come at a premium. I love being informed and consulted on each decision. Very friendly and professional, and their techs are so approachable and knowledgeable. My partner and I have been everything from (overly) worried puppy parents to (adequately) concerned parents calling overnight for help treating a sliced vein that took hours to get under control. Each time these vets and techs have given 110% to Red's care and respect and agency to us as parents. Also Red reliably drops off his past meals during examinations and they still seem happy to have him come back again. So sorry.

We took our 12 year old Portie that had been lethargic and sneezy for 2 weeks and suddenly stopped eating. I was able to drop her off without an appointment. She was examined within a couple hours and prompt communication was received. She was given an anti-nausea and a shot and I was able to pick her up a couple hours later. I was very impressed with the level of care from Sophia at the check-in to Jennifer at the pickup and Michelle at the follow-up email and call the next day. Very impressed with GVH, we would most definitely recommend them!

Quick turnaround - very flexible and reasonable approach. Even upon an initial diagnosis and suggested treatment dr Jesse was working with me to reduce the cost but still to do the necessary x-rays and examinations. asking questions and working with the clinic showed me that they are professional and focused on health of your pet. friendly staff and timely services

Just had our cat, Chunk, in this am for an emergency visit for blocked urethra. Learning a lot as first time cat owners.. Anyhow, the staff got Chunk in right away and the clinic owner, Jessie, who was there to manage the installation of a new phone system (and therefore not 'on the floor') came immediately to Chunk. He spent so much time explaining the situation that i felt badly pulling him away from other things. He explained all options for Chunk, and gave us a range of alternatives for his care. Once we had selected a path, he further delayed his other business owner duties by taking Chunk straight into surgery. He called me an hour ago to tell me that Chunk had come through surgery like a champion, and walked me through everything required in his post-op care. The team at GVH are wonderful, comprehensive, and caring in their work with animals and humans. I can't recommend them more strongly. Thanks you, GVH.

I have mixed feelings after visiting the clinic. It was our first visit here for vaccination, doctor's consultation and to trim the dog's nails (as I am afraid of hurting him, so I always trust this procedure to professionals). The doctor is wonderful, he told me everything I needed to know, answered my questions, the examination and vaccination were at the highest level. But one nail was cut so that a blood vessel was damaged (for the first time in 5 years). And if I hadn't paid attention, no one would have said anything. The doctor said that nothing else needed to be done, but the unpleasant aftertaste remained. I will definitely come back here again, but I won't trust my dog's nails to be trimmed here anymore.
