How to Save Money at Kinsol Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We have been with Kinsol Bet since 2019 and have always been impressed with their friendly manner, compassion, and excellent care for the animals. My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lilibet is always so excited to go to the Vet and receives the best care possible. Couldn’t recommend them enough!

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I had a great experience. My daughter asked to listen to our puppy’s heart beat when the vet tech got out her stethoscope, I said no, but the vet tech happily let her try without hesitation. She also showed me the proper way to trim nails so I can do it myself without worrying about hurting our puppy. Then the vet went through pros and cons of different spaying times and options with me instead of just telling me what to do.

One of the best vets we've been to by far. I've followed Dr. Skelton from Mill Bay to her own practice in Shawnigan, and now to this location. Everyone in this office has always had the best standards of care, are compassionate, understanding, mindful, accommodating, and are truly invested in the animals they treat.

This clinic is by far the best I've ever come across in my many years of having pets. Long review below, so if you're not feeling like reading it all, that's really all you need to know! If you want more details, read on... When we moved to this area, I looked into all the nearby vets, and some were taking new patients at the time. However, Kinsol's fear-free philosophy really resonated with me, and I felt their approach would be the best fit for my furfamily. Rather than registering with another local clinic right away, we remained with our previous vet in Langford and joined Kinsol's waitlist. We were on their waitlist for about a year before being taken on as patients, and it was more than worth the wait. They are organized, communicative, knowledgeable, and friendly. The clinic itself is laid out very well, and the exam rooms are comfortable and welcoming. It's one of the only places I've ever taken my anxious rescue dog where there's no way for her to get trapped in a corner of an exam room. There's lots of parking and a green space nearby for your dog to stretch their legs and pee before getting back in the car. More importantly, the staff are fantastic. Everyone is efficient, kind, compassionate, and so helpful. We've seen both Dr Skelton and Dr Lorimer, as well as most (or possibly all) of the vet techs. Every single person has been so gentle and careful with my dog and cats. The appointments are long enough that there's no need to rush, so they are able to take great care to keep the animals as calm and comfortable as possible. During my anxious rescue dog's first annual physical, the vet had me do some of the handling of my dog (opening her mouth to check teeth, etc) so she wouldn't be scared due to being handled lots by a stranger. The vet also took us on a tour of the back area of the clinic so our dog could see what all the noises were that she could hear from the exam room. Everyone working back there let her sniff them, several people provided treats, and nobody tried to touch her or make eye contact. It was such a great experience for both our dog and for me to have her needs understood and met like that. They have also encouraged me to bring our dog in when she doesn't have an appointment just to have some treats and get more familiar with the space so she's less nervous during appointments. And they're great about providing treats and lick mats to help nervous critters relax! My senior cat recently had a terrible infection and required surgery to remove the infected mass (which turned out to be cancerous). She's 17, and we were worried about the surgery, but they got her through it with flying colours. This issue started over two months ago, and Kinsol has been awesome throughout. So clear about my options, so wonderful with my cat, and so supportive through the whole process. They have squeezed her in for checkups of the infection and incision on days when they are totally booked. They have called numerous times between visits to check her progress. I also want to mention pricing. Veterinary medicine is expensive, as so many things are these days. The training required is long and expensive, the overheads are high, and staff need to be paid sufficiently to match the exorbitant cost of living in the area where they work. Given all that, I don't find veterinary costs in general high - expensive, yes, but it's not a charity, and that's what it costs 🤷♀️ That said, I have been extremely impressed that despite being such a great clinic that provides excellent care and longer appointments than most other places, Kinsol does not seem to have higher prices than other clinics we've been to in recent years. In fact, their costs are often slightly lower than I've paid or been quoted elsewhere. They seem to do their best to keep costs down without compromising the quality of care. If they recommend a procedure, they provide detailed estimates beforehand, and I never feel pressured to agree to anything without knowing the costs, options, and consequences of not proceeding with testing first.

King Gustav III, was a feral cat rescued by the authorities after many attempts. His transition from King Rat to docile domestic has been carefully developed by the staff of Kinsol Vets. His health is well maintained through regular check ups. I think it's the fact that Kinsol doesn't create needs for him, they look at the basics and keep his overhead at a reasonable level. I can't thank them enough!
