How to Save Money at Sunshine Hills Veterinary Ltd

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It’s been 3 months since we had to put our beautiful dog down. She was diagnosed with bladder cancer. It was the worst day of my life having to say goodbye. The entire team at Sunshine Hills Veterinary clinic are amazing people. They treated Ellie for a year giving her the best care possible always willing to help and take extra time to explain everything. The day we put her down they all had tears in their eyes. They helped make the best of the situation I would like to thank each one of them Dr Boyle is truly a wonderful Vet and a even better person. Dr Nelson was so compassionate and amazing always so welcoming to us. Valerie was answering my calls with a great helpful attitude and always had time to talk. Nikki another example of a wonderful person that was truly awesome. Sonya helped with the Ellie’s last moments she was thoughtful and caring. Amy was a huge help in Ellie’s care. This is a very well run clinic and the staff is the best there is. I owe them so much for helping us through everything. Thank you Ladies you all were fantastic and amazing ❤️❤️❤️

I took my Golden Retriever/Bernese mix, who can be a bit anxious with strangers, for a checkup here. The vet tech didn’t try to make her comfortable at all. She gave her one treat and then tried to take her heart rate without any interaction. My dog made a soft growl and the vet tech left the room. After that, the staff refused to touch her. The vet made me put a muzzle on her before examining her, even though she is not aggressive. The vet didn’t touch her either, except for giving her treats after the muzzle came off. They prescribed me medications to give her before the next visit. I won’t be coming back here. The vet tech lacked basic skills in approaching dogs. She should have petted her and built trust before using a metal object on her chest. This was a very stressful and unprofessional experience for me and my dog.

These people are inhumane Rather than giving your pet back to a loving family they will give it to the humane society or kill euthanize it because you can't afford 4 k surgery right away than complain there's so many animals in the pound they are disgusting humans if I ever own another animal this is not where I would ever go again they charged me 1500 just to walk in

This is by far the best Veterinary office I have ever used during my many years of being a pet owner. The care and compassion they had for my cat was better than other other clinic I have been to. They did not run tests without asking and provided a quote if needed. They let me take the helm for the treatment of my girl. They were there for her when it was her time and made sure I had all the facts and time with her as she passed. I am forever grateful for the services they offered and when I get another pet they will be first in line to look after them.
