How to Save Money at Steeples Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

5 stars is not nearly enough credit this clinic and the staff deserve. As a long time client, these vets have cared from everything to my injured horses, to terminally ill dogs. My most recent experience with doctor Alyssa will be one I hold close to my heart for ever. She not only provided my dog Penny with the immediate care and attention when she became very sick in a short time frame, but she provided me with a reasonable plan of treatment and possible options. Unfortunately Penny’s sickness took over quickly. The end of life care that Penny was given by doctor Alyssa was whole heartedly a beautiful experience during a difficult time. She helped comfort, and support me every step as I said goodbye to my 5 year old pup. I can’t thank you all enough for your support and hard work. But most of all providing me with the card I received of Penny’s paw and nose prints and most importantly her ear print. Thank you.

You will have no regrets. These guys are fantastic. No muzzle like the other vet for barking once. They are the best with animals. My girl was comfortable with them. Love this place.

I have been going to Steeples for many years and with all of my furbabies. Recently my little guy has had a few health concerns & had an emergency (in my eyes an emergency) yesterday. I felt the need to comment because I have left there the last few month’s raving about the care, attention to detail & education they have given us. I have literally nothing but praise for the receptionists, technicians & vets! Dr Willow Burnes is beyond what I could ever ask for in our vet. She is so thorough & so so kind. She makes me and my boy feel so at ease. Yesterday we saw Dr Joselyn Reynolds and again such a wonderful experience in every regard start to finish. Dr Reynolds was beyond wonderful. I felt so calm knowing Jigger was in her safe hands. The knowledge & understanding from my first phone call makes me tear up quite honestly. The technician even put a gold star on his bandages which is the attention to detail I have referred to, it is all the little things that do not go unnoticed. To all of those at Steeples we thank you for always taking care of our needs. We could never go to another clinic after the attention & professionalism we have been provided. Beyond grateful for each & every one of you. Our many thanks are not nearly enough!

Steeples Veterinary Clinic has cared for our animals, large and small, ever since Dr Pat Rice started the business near the overpass in Cranbrook. They have never failed us. Our most recent experience was to have our one year old Chihuahua spayed, and our experience was one of warmth, sincerity, professionalism , and veterinary excellence…once again.. They are the best.

I have been going to Steeples since my Coco was a tiny pup. She is now going to be 14. She has had a couple of surgeries and the clinic has been more than supportive and understanding. They also take care of all 4 of my dogs and 3 cats. They are the absolute best hands down.
