How to Save Money at Stony Plain Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The Stony Plain Vet Clinic is a phenomenal place! They took amazing care of my puppy each time I’ve brought her in, they give the upmost care for each animal and most importantly take the time to ensure they feel comfortable. I can really appreciate that they make the effort to call a day later to check in on how my puppy is doing. They’re very knowledgeable on any questions/concerns I have! I would highly recommend them for their top quality treatment.

This clinic has always taken care of my family dogs while growing up and provided excellent care. Then I got my own first dog Lu in 2011 and consistently had wonderful experience after wonderful experience with this clinic. I'm lucky in that I only had to take Lu in for a couple of impromptu visits outside her regular yearly checks, as she was a very healthy pup. One time, she sliced her paw open on some ice, and the clinic did a drop off/fit in and took such amazing care of Lu and of me. I think I was more anxious about dropping her off than Lu was about being dropped off. Recently, Lu was unfortunately having issues and was diagnosed with heart disease at an emergency vet clinic. Upon follow-up at Stony Plain Veterinary Clinic, we ran more tests and monitored Lu further. Dr. Paige Wark is extremely compassionate, helpful, and knowledgeable. She walked me through everything and even contacted me a couple of times between visits with results and when I e-mailed in with changes and concerns about Lu. I had another appointment scheduled for this week to do further testing, but unfortunately, on July 6, Lu was ready to say goodbye. The clinic made canceling the appointment and passing a message to Dr. Paige a breeze (things like this are usually very difficult with grief). Lu and I were so well taken care of for over 13 years, and I can't say how grateful I am for that treatment.

Stony Plain Vet Clinic was referred to us by our own vet clinic when they were unable to assist us in examine our dog who was in medical distress. Not only did SPVC see us on short notice but the care they provided was top notch and professional. All of the staff, from the front end staff to the vet techs and Dr. Kelly treated our dog and ourselves with the utmost of respectful care. Would not hesitate to recommend SPVC to anyone looking for a vet or someone needing urgent care.

Dr. Camilo Acuna was invaluable in offering support and compassion in a time of need. He took the time to explain what was going on with our puppy and was incredibly understanding. The admin staff is so lovely and welcoming. I have recommended my family and friends here.

Absolutely would not bring another one of my animals to this vet clinic. I have been a client for over 10 years and I completely disgusted with how I’ve been treated. My cat was recently diagnosed with lymphoma, was not eating or drinking which was on a Monday. Wednesday I called to let them know he still wasn’t eating or drinking and asked for a phone call on what to do. Thursday morning I called to ask for anti nausea meds. No call back. Friday, no call back. I decided that euthanasia was the best path for my cat and finally get a call back from the owner Paige saying she’s sorry while I’m spending the last hour of my cats life with him. I tried to address my concern via email and call asking why I couldn’t even get a call back to help with my sick dying cat. No answer. Fast forward to today and my parents who are away their dog is sick I tried to get an appointment and after telling me they needed consent from them and wouldn’t wait 15 minutes for me to get the email and send all files over to get him looked at they “gave” the 630 appointment away. If you are looking for a clinic that cares more about money than the well being of your pet then stony plain is your place!!!
