How to Save Money at Railtown Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely wonderful vets and staff here! We have never been to this clinic before, but they were able to take my cat in very last minute on a Friday morning. My poor boy was very very sick and we had no idea what was wrong with him. He had to stay with them for a total of 5 days while they did everything they could to figure out what was wrong with him and save him. They called me multiple times a day to give me updates, took the time and answered any questions I had, allowed us to visit him for hours even though it took up one of their exam rooms. After the 5 days my boy is now home and on the mend, thanks to the wonderful team at Railtown animal clinic. I can't thank them enough for all they have done for me and my boy True. Because of this clinic my baby is alive today 💜

Taylor the Tech was amazing. Paid attention to all my questions about my wiener dog 🐕 sushi 🍣. Dr Adam’s was impeccable. She really cares about her career and her passion for helping pets. I recommend this clinic to anyone with a pet to go visit. This will be Sushi’s clinic to go to here in Grande Prairie. Happy holidays everybody.

A special thanks to the whole team for making time to see Thornton on short notice each time he's sick. Someone is always available. All the staff are so kind, knowledgeable and patient! Lots of information and options and don't make you feel rushed by any means. Very sensitive to feelings about cost and the payment options available are great when on a budget. The extra phone calls and follow-ups are very touching. The clinic staff treat your furry friends like family. The clinic is so beautiful and clean.

The Railtown animal clinic has been amazing for me. I am based in the Yukon territory and I was travelling to Manitoba when one of my dogs started not feeling well in the truck... It was a Friday night, so I called my vet and she told me to monitor her for the night and get to a vet wherever I would be if she doesn't get better.... Saturday morning she was not getting better so when I made it back to the cell reception in Fort Nelson, no one in North of BC could take me for an after hours appointment... I needed to keep driving south to get closer to a bigger city, so a friend of mine started calling vets for me... Railtown was totally fine to deal with my friend on the phone and get all the info they could with her and they gave me an appointment for when we thought I would be driving by Grand Prairie... Dr Adams examined my dog, she was so good with her and with me, who was a bit exhausted with all that... She took time to explain to me all her thinking, even making me feel/touch what she was finding. She is very knowledgeable and patient. I am very grateful for their flexibility and their kindness, my dog got very good care... We even had a phone follow up discussion once I was in Manitoba to see if everything was fine. I highly recommend this place, they really care and are passionate about what they are doing! Thank you very much for everything!!

The clinic staff treat your furry friends like royalty all the way down to the high end liver treats provided! We can't we can't forget about the pricing! Very reasonable! Very! I highly, highly recommend this clinic!
