How to Save Money at Rocky Rapids Veterinary Service
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

From the bottom of my heart I just want to say thank you for being so wonderful with Pocahontas. It was a hard decision to remove her leg, but Rocky Rapids not only reassured us of the right decision, but were also very much supportive at our emotional level. They not only validated our concerns, reassured our doubts and shared our achy hearts, but they also invested love and comfort reassuring Poca with affection. Hopefully this is the last of all trauma that she will ever have to endure and she can live a life of comfort and security that she deserves. This establishment has an amazing team of caring people and we couldn’t have asked for anything better than the best we got. Thank you

Negative Stars if I could. We've been with Rocky Rapids since 2006. My one cat is sick, and needed an emergency appointment, so I had someone take her in while I was at work. We had an agreement that I would be able to come in and pay for the visit on Monday or Tuesday. Then not even an hour later Dr.Clara Kim was threatening to let my cat die because she went back on her word and would not allow the person with my cat to leave with a diagnosis and medication unless it was paid in full the same day. The clinic and I had an agreement, prior to all this happening. So thank-you for causing all this stress, not caring about animals, and making my cat the pawn for money. Kim stated she doesn't know who we were or my family even though we've been in business with them for over a decade. I will be leaving here and taking my animals somewhere else where the vets actually care about the well-being of my pets and not just my pockets.

From the bottom of my heart thank you to all the staff for the patience and kindness and compassion through process of loosing a beloved pet. I was a complete mess having to say goodbye. When I arrived for our appointment I was a mess and could barely speak. Hours later when I had a breakdown realizing I never asked for Ravens paw prints and distraught called thinking I was too late. The staff had already taken care of it having to foresight it would matter to me. The entire process they helped me understand the process and take the time I needed. And allowed me to be beside her until the end. I can’t thank you all enough for helping me through the most difficult day of my life.

I am so impressed. I had to contact the emergency service on Sunday for my cat. After speaking to the triage tech, I was reassured that I could wait until her regular vet was open. This person was calming, knowledgeable, compassion & caring. The next day, Michele followed up on her condition. What an amazing clinc.

I have to give an awesome review for the team at Rocky Rapids Vet. They have surpassed my expectations with my animals. I have a 10 year old Dane that I was taking to Meyerthorpe vet until about a year ago when she could no longer make the long drive there. So I decided to try the Rocky Rapids Vet. Because of my dogs medical history, I was worried to change vets. All of those concerns are history after a year of dealing with this amazing team. They have been SO accommodating with my animals needs. They are so over the top friendly with me, they adore my animals and have been stellar on price. One situation was my Dane had a tumor in her mouth that needed surgery and anesthetic. Dr.Winder was so thorough with explaining what was going to be done, what could possibly happen and answered all my silly questions with a smile. I had to take my cat in for an emergency after hrs call, and again Dr.Winder was top notch. He did not rush me, he did not try to drain my bank account, and my cat was very well taken care of and good to go in a day. This is not to take anything away from every other team member I have dealt with there. I always leave feeling taken care of and valued. I have worked customer service in this town for almost 20 years, I know alot of people. When I read the negative reviews here, I recognize many of the names and can tell you that they are customers I struggled to deal with myself and feel they wouldn't be happy no matter what they got for service. Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt and try this vet out yourself. My dog is my world and if I'm comfortable with the vet that sees her, that says something. I will happily continue to use this vet.
