How to Save Money at Magnolia Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

THANK YOU for taking care of our fur baby Keven at last notice today. We appreciate you going above and beyond only to find out it the issue was a false alarm. We are also sorry Keven was a "drama queen" today...he is spoiled and hates being touched. I highly recommend your veterinary clinic as I am confident they will take care of your pet as they did mine.

I have never had an experience that was as difficult as this one. If your dog is puking blood and your a client it doesn’t matter because if you have not brought your dog into the clinic but set up a client page incase you will be denied any emergency vet access’s as they have not “met” your pet yet as I was just told on the phone. I set my client page up over 1 year ago as I have had many issues trying to see an emergency vet. I was just given an appointment for 1 week after this date and my dog is puking BLOOD. So my dog is expected to wait it out 1 week while puking blood just to get an appointment. I was denied emergency services not because I’m not a client but because they haven’t met my dog before !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Amanda was so compassionate and caring last year when we lost our 16 year old Princess due to old age. Then only a few months later we lost our little Abby due to Cushing Disease at 11 years old. I was quite emotional and she gave me a big hug to help me, as I have also been sick myself for the past couple of years and was finding myself overwhelmed with the losses. She helped me more than she can ever know. Danielle at the front desk has also been so good too and having pets of her own, she knows how to help comfort and care for the animals and their owners. ❤️❤️ Danielle has now moved and I will miss her greatly!

This place was fantastic originally but the staff’s care, professionalism and taking accountability has gone way down including the owner herself. Condescending tech accused my spouse of “not listening to the vet properly and not passing on information correctly” Accused me of accusing the vet (owner) of falsifying records when all I stated is that the notes had changed from when the summary was originally completed and sent to me. Then turned around and refused care, upping our sedated X-ray quote another $200 because she refused to read the X-rays even if they were performed at her clinic. We will take our business elsewhere to someone who actually wants to communicate with their patient’s owners instead of slinging around a conflict brewed from a misunderstanding and change in the treatment plan forward. Keep this up and you won’t be in business long.

Stopped by to start up accounts for my two dogs and cat - they were not taking clients. When I asked if there was a waiting line, she said that's not available either. Hmmm, okay not sure what to do - I asked if there were two vets or one? Lady at front counter (receptionist/tech?) asked where did you bring them before? I said I lived in BC and prior to that I brought my older dog to Meadow Lake (who is closing down, hence my visit) and she replied 'well - bring them back there'. It was a weird unfriendly interaction - reading these reviews I am happy it didn't work out.
