How to Save Money at Neartown Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This vet clinic used to be good with friendly technicians and doctors and my dog loved coming here. Now, it's a completely different story. The front desk is rude and short, in person and on the phone. Last time I was there one of the technicians argued with me over how to bring my dog into the room because she was anxious. I didn't appreciate being talked to like a child, that was so unprofessional. Thirdly, there's no doctors that are quickly in and out. They are nice enough but not very helpful and do not sit with you and take time to explain everything thoroughly. Lastly, the prices are CRAZY! My dog went in for ONE flu vaccine today and they charged us for the tech visit, a medical waste fee, and the shot (overpriced per other vets) and it was $100! That is crazy for one vaccine! And she was due for another and they forgot to give it to save us money from having to go back. Overall, avoid this place at all costs if you want to save money and be treated with respect.

I’ve been with Neartown Animal Clinic for 8 years now, for both my pups and I honestly couldn’t ask for a better place. The entire team is incredibly attentive, caring and professional. Every time we come in, I feel completely confident that my dogs are getting the best care possible. The doctors and staff are fully at your disposal and so caring with my dogs and I trust the doctors completely. From every annual check up, vaccine tech appointment, and emergency or even simple concerns I or my pups have. Neartown Animal Clinic is the best and top care there is for Pets.Thank you for all you do for my babies. 🐶💛 Could not recommend enough!

I went to Neartown in need of a second opinion for my pup who I was being told needed $600+ x-rays for an obstruction. Neartown recognized the symptoms as something entirely different and after a week of antibiotics, she’s doing much better! Now, several weeks and a follow up visit later, their treatment has helped heal her gut and made her a happy dog, once again. Thank you Neartown for taking such good care of my fur baby!

I truly hate this place - they will milk every possible dollar out of you and pitch you a bunch of claims that your pet will need when it’s not necessary. You have to negotiate with them and ask what is absolutely necessary otherwise they will take advantage of you. I spent over $1k for my dog on one visit and they didn’t even write up a summary… that’s the bare MINIMUM. absolutely disappointing DO NOT GO HERE

Update: I have was pretty upset when I found out Dr. Miller had left - she’s been the first vet I’ve felt truly comfortable with. I immediately felt relieved after meeting Dr. Qassem!!! She was wonderful - listened to be go on and on, answered my many questions, and was willing to talk everything through. I am so grateful to know my doggos hands continue to be in safe hands. Destine was also amazing - kind, patient, and knowledgeable. Thank you, thank you, thank you! —————— My experience since transferring both of my dogs to Neartown has been amazing!! Dr. Miller is truly wonderful!!! I’ve been at the ease since moving my girls here and with Dr. Miller’s approach to their care. I wasn’t pressured to make rushed decisions or overwhelmed with lots of treatments/medications, etc. Instead she listened and truly took time to become familiar with my dogs to recommend the best treatment. I feel confident my dogs will never be over medicated or in a constant state of change and that they will always receive the most professional and well-informed treatment plans. It doesn’t end with Dr. Miller. William, who scheduled my first appointment and handled my checkout, was exceptional. He made the whole process easy and shared what options were available for getting my dogs’ medication. Daisy greeted us when we arrived. She could not have been kinder or more welcoming. My dogs loved our vet technician Alexis!! Even my shy German Shepherd puppy. She was gentle and patient with them. I’m pretty sure they’d be excited to go to their next appointment just to see her…and the rest of the team. Thank you Neartown Animal Clinic!!!
