How to Save Money at 2525 Sunset Veterinarians

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Hi, I’m Milly 🐶 From my mom’s first call for an emergency appointment to my exam and treatment plan, Dr. Kennedy & team treated us like VIPs. Everyone was gentle, compassionate, and took the time to explain everything so (we both) 🤣 felt calm and cared for. Thank you, 2525 Sunset Veterinarians- Two paws up!!! 🐾💕

I recently took my cat to 2525 Sunset Vets and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. All staff members were kind and attentive both in person and on the phone. Dr Smith is an excellent vet and explained my cats care in detail and with consideration of my time and cost of care. I could not recommend this place enough, truly!

Great vet! We’ve gone in for two visits now and both were so smooth. The second visit was for explosive diarrhea after staying at a boarder. Thank goodness for Dr. Howe. We got a same day appointment. He got us special food, antibiotics and a probiotic. Our dog was back to normal in a day. No more accidents to clean up. Hallelujah. They even called to check up on us! Pickles and her family say thank you!

Highly recommend! This vet team is amazing & did what other vets said "couldn't be done" and we should amputate. Instead, Dr. Young & Charlotte were brave, willing to take our pup's case, and perform an incredible, difficult surgery to repair multiple breaks in my dog's leg. The team at 2525 Sunset Vet Clinic is kind, caring, thorough, patient, and so knowledgeable. Dr. Young performed a 6-hr surgery with rods, pins, plates., multiple follow up visits - our pup is recovered and walking, back to herself again before the accident. We are so grateful and recommend this clinic for vet care, without hesitation. They are wonderful!

They just want your money, they could absolutely care less about your best friend. They told me my cat, who came in appearing jaundiced and was not eating, that he was close to death. Mind you, this was because of a medication that they prescribed. I was in tears and the vet told me that I would have to go to an ER and that they called around, and it would be about $3,000 BASELINE to get him seen and he would need a feeding tube. She also offered to put him down right there on the spot! They kept us there for over an hour just to say this. And during that time all they did was give him fluids. Essentially, wasting crucial time. Even worse, the vet claimed she didn't know how to work an ultrasound machine, even though there was one in the office. I'm sorry, but what kind of vet doesn't know how to use an ultrasound machine?! They charged me $180 for that visit and made me pay before leaving despite the emergency situation. I just couldn't believe this, so I called my old vet who I saw when I lived elsewhere, the man is a saint, and he actually picked up the phone. He told me they were very wrong and if I could get food in him, the liver would reverse itself immediately. I forced my cat to eat some food, and lo and behold he was fine. No long term damage. To think that this vet office could have just done that and prevented all of this anxiety and grief, not to mention the bill I would have faced and told them I was unable to pay, is just astounding to me. What is even more astounding is that they didn't even bother to call to see if I made it to the ER nor did they do any follow up at all. I get an automated email or text message literally every 2 weeks from their office saying my cats are due for a physical. I have tried putting these messages in spam and reporting the texts, but they just keep coming! I was going to leave this alone, but now 4 months later, I received a call today that my cats were both due "for an annual physical." No mention of the event, nothing, as though it didn't even happen. Are you kidding? How dare you.
