How to Save Money at Wellington Animal Hospital Woodstock Veterinarian

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Vets are nice. However, RECEPTIONISTS need to provide better customer service. My family and I have been coming to this clinic since it first opened. We are no longer going to support this clinic do to their unethical behavior. A call to the veterinarian association will be my next call after this review.

I would like to address some concerns I have with the treatment at Wellington Animal Hospital. My first visit was with my dog Athena in regards to her vomiting. I was extremely flustered and concerned that she wasn't going to make it. I was in tears and the clinic reassured myself and my father who accompanied me to the clinic that she would be OK. I then expressed that I have another dog Milo who seemed to be having some breathing issues. The vet discussed bringing him in just incase. I set up an appointment for March, 14th 2024 to have Milo looked over. On March 12th I contacted the Wellington animal hospital by phone to cancel this appointment due to myself double booking my sons doctors appointment in Milton the same day as Milos appointment. Shortly after March, 14th 2024. I received a bill for the amount of $80.00 in the mail for a "missed appointment". I immediately got on the phone and discussed that I had canceled this appointment. I did not receive the best customer service over the phone. With back and forth messaging and calling the $80 "missed appointment" fee was voided. On Monday October 7th 2024 Athena was having difficulties with a UTI infection. I brought her in the vet was nice and provided the care needed. After my appointment and paying I asked the receptionist to cancel my appointment for Milo as I knew I wouldn't be able to make it. I asked the receptionist for some sort of clarification by email or paper that the appointment was canceled. She said there was no way to prove the appointment was canceled I had to go based on her word. I then asked to speak with a manager as I wanted to express that the past cancelation Was not canceled properly which caused me stress. The receptionist said there was no manager in and with resilience she got another employee to tell me that the appointment was canceled. I left the clinic with no paperwork to show appointment was canceled. Today, October 18th at 9:30 am I called due to a purlator package coming from Wellington Animal Hospital. I asked the receptionist what this was in regards to. She then explained that Wellington Animal Hospital would no longer be our Vet because I wasn't pleased with our last service. I explained that's not what happened I simply just wanted proof for my records and to put my mind at ease that there would be no "missed appointment" charges going forward. I asked to speak to manager and was told that there would be someone calling me in regards to this. I feel that this is harsh treatment towards myself and my animals because I wanted clarification by email or paper that my dogs appointment was canceled correctly to avoid another charge. I have asked for manager to reach out by email to clarify this outcome towards my family. Your response is the same as your email to me. Dismissive and immature! I have reported you to the CVO with all supporting documents and misconduct. Best of luck with your practice! :)

I’ve been a client for 10 years and would recommend this vet to anyone! We drive from Cambridge with our chihuahua cross Kessel and our new French bulldog Romeo because they provide the best care. Our pups are treated like family ❤️
