How to Save Money at Apple Creek Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I recently visited Apple Creek Veterinary Hospital for both an annual body check and emergency care for my pet, Ciweiwei and Enzo. and I couldn’t be more impressed with the experience. The doctors were incredibly nice and patient, taking the time to explain everything in detail and making sure my pet was comfortable throughout. The staff is professional and attentive, ensuring that every concern is addressed. Whether for routine care or emergencies, I feel confident trusting Apple Creek with my pet’s health. Highly recommend!

Snowy

Both of my cats snowy and flurry has been loving the treatments from this place. The veterinarians are all so nice and kind to us and the cats. The hospital is considerably close for people in Markham to access. For us, Snowy gets carsick but due to how close the place is, he usually never throws up during the ride. Each rooms inside the vet is clean and comforting for animals and 100% of the time we went, none of our cats seemed uncomfortable. Overall, one of the best vets in Markham.

I was extremely nervous bringing my cat to the vet for a first visit. She’s not aggressive but can be easily frightened. After lots of research I decided on Apple Creek and I’m so glad I did, because Dr. Jessica is wonderful. Not only is it conveniently in the area I live, but everything about the visit was positive and prices are affordable. The moment I walked in, the ladies at the desk were welcoming. The rooms aren’t too large or too small, open enough that everyone including your fur baby is comfortable. I saw Dr. Jessica and she was sooo good and kind to my cat. Dr. Jessica encouraged my cat to roam and get used to the room before proceeding with the exam. She is informative and honest, didn’t push at all for any kind of decision if it wasn’t necessary. She operates from a “do what’s best for you and your pet” belief, which made someone on a budget like me, not feel bad for not affording top shelf or an 100% carnivorous diet. She also has a cat so she was able to confidently make recommendations. Dr. Jessica clipped my baby’s nails as well - she showed a lot of patience and attentiveness while doing this by letting my cat take a minute whenever she showed she needed it. I was so surprised at how well my cat was with her - she even allowed her some pets in between💙 My cat came back home as her usual self - not unsettled, upset or anything like that. The cost for an exam for my cat was $84.52 after tax. Will definitely be back to see Dr. Jessica next month to get up to date vaccinations.

Holly had an amazing experience at Apple Creek Veterinary practice. She is a timid girl, however Dr.Sammie took great care with her and was so patient and gentle she breezed through her vaccinations and exam. She also enjoyed the plentiful treats. The staff were very friendly and professional. I highly recommend this practice, we are both so grateful.

They used to be great and attentive but these days they are really lacking the time to provide quality care to their patients. Our family dog has been seeing Augustine for the past decade and recently was diagnosed with a disease. We waited over 2 weeks to get a detailed diagnosis and have been waiting 1.5 weeks for an explanation on the diagnosis. Still waiting… We were told we would be able to get a prompt response but kept denying whenever we called in.
