How to Save Money at Quinte Pet Housecall: Exclusively Home Euthanasia (Mobile Vet)

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

A week ago we had to say goodbye to our sweet Patches who was 18 1/2 years old. She declined very quickly and we didn’t want her to suffer any longer. Dr Singh was very compassionate and gentle with her in her last moments. He made her passing so much easier during such a difficult time for us. Thank you for your service to our community in aiding those who want to have their beloved pet pass in their comfortable environment.

Our boy declined rather quickly, he was able to make it out to our place the same day. He made us feel comfortable with the hard decision we had to make. He was very informative and incredibly compassionate. Max’s last moments were peaceful, that’s all we could have asked for. We can’t say enough good things about Dr. Singh! Thank you so much, from our whole family. ❤️

A few days ago, my husband and I had to make the extremely difficult decision to put down our senior cat, Wendy, who had quite a rapid decline. This was a very difficult decision for us, but this vet made us feel comfortable and at peace with our choice. He was extremely respectful, he explained the procedure to us in a polite and gentle manner, and he gave us the time and space to grieve and say goodbye. He assisted us with shaving her paws to do clay and ink paw prints which he definitely did not need to do. A little kindness and respect goes a long way in moments like this, and I am forever grateful for the services he provided to us in our time of need. We will miss our girl forever, and I am so happy she got to spend her last moments in our home with us where she was not scared or stressed. Rest easy, sweet girl. Thank you again to Quinte Pet Housecall.

We knew our 14 year old lab’s time was coming. After speaking with Dr Singh on the Friday, he suggested that we would not make an appointment until after the weekend due to Louie still scoring fairly high on the quality of life scale. Louie was able to have his last weekend at his favourite place which included swimming one last time. It was a beautiful weekend , however it became apparent that yes, in fact it was his time. After calling Dr Singh Monday morning , he agreed and we made the appointment for 6 pm the same day. Dr Singh made time for us, which I was truly thankful for because prolonging the inevitable and waiting days would have been torture for Louie and us as well. He was so on time, was clear but calming about what to do and what to expect. He told us to talk to Louie the entire time. He made this horrible thing immensely less painful in terms of his demeanour and knowing what Louie would want from us on his way over the rainbow bridge . I would recommend Dr. Singh one hundred percent. RIP Sweet LOUIE 💔🐾🌈😢 Thank you Dr Singh and Quinte Pet Housecall
