How to Save Money at Paradise Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have no words to express how grateful I am for the excellent care we always receive. I have traveled several times from Sarasota to Miami so my dog, Tayson, can be seen by Dr. Jaime, and every trip has been completely worth it. Dr. Jaime is an outstanding professional—very dedicated, kind, and he truly shows a genuine love for animals. The entire clinic staff is amazing; they always greet us with a smile and treat Tayson with so much love, patience, and care. They make us feel like family. I confidently recommend this clinic to anyone looking for the best care for their pet. Thank you so much for taking such great care of my dog!

I never thought I’d be writing this after 11 years of loyalty, but my last visit to Paradise Animal Clinic was beyond disappointing. My dog has suffered from recurring UTIs for almost a decade. Dr. Pausa has always prescribed ciprofloxacin, so this condition is well documented. I simply asked if a refill could be added so I wouldn’t have to put my dog through a stressful 45-minute drive for something we already knew. Instead, I was forced to bring her in and then pressured into X-rays. I clearly said no and explained that the X-ray would tell us nothing new — yet I was still charged nearly $300. In the end, I walked out with the same medication I originally asked for. What really crossed the line was how my dog was treated during the X-ray attempt. The handling was rough, unnecessary, and completely uncalled for. Watching it happen was heartbreaking. After 11 years of trust, this experience felt like a cash grab rather than compassionate veterinary care. I won’t be returning and would urge long-time clients to think twice.

I am writing to express my heartbreaking experience with my dog, Bella, who was my best friend for 11 years. I have been taking Bella to Paradise Animal Clinic since she was a puppy. Throughout all the years she was under their care, Bella was always healthy. She attended her yearly checkups regularly, ate healthy food, and never had any severe illnesses. Everything changed suddenly when Bella began getting very sick. She was constantly vomiting, sleeping in unusual positions, and experiencing diarrhea. As soon as we noticed these symptoms, I took her to Paradise Animal Clinic on May 20 right when they opened at 9:00 AM. When we arrived, they took Bella’s weight and then Dr. Pausa came in and took her away from me. He asked me to wait outside and said they would bring her back shortly. I was confused and worried because I had always stayed by Bella’s side during visits. Eventually, they brought her back to me while we waited for her blood work results. Once the results came in, I was brought into a room where Dr. Pausa explained that Bella’s overall health appeared okay, but there was serious concern regarding pancreatitis. He explained that normal levels range from 0–200, while Bella’s level was 1729, which he described as extremely alarming. Despite these dangerously high levels, Bella was sent home with a liquid diet, medication for nausea and diarrhea, and a prescription food bag. My bill was nearly $600. We went home hopeful that the medication would help, but Bella continued to be in pain. The following day, Thursday, May 21, we gave her the prescribed medication, but she refused to eat the food provided. That afternoon, Bella suffered a seizure, which left us terrified. We immediately rushed her to LeadER Emergency Vet. At LeadER, the staff acted quickly and performed several tests. The emergency veterinarian was extremely concerned and explained that Bella’s pancreatitis levels alone should have been serious enough for immediate hospitalization or referral to an emergency hospital the day before. We were also informed that the medications prescribed by Paradise Animal Clinic were not helping her condition and may have worsened it. Further testing revealed devastating news: Bella had a large mass in her stomach that had likely been growing for a long time, along with fluid in her brain and throughout her body. Everything happened so fast, and our family was completely overwhelmed and heartbroken. What made the situation even harder to process was learning that this mass had apparently been developing for a long time, yet nothing had ever been mentioned during her yearly checkups. Bella stayed overnight at the emergency hospital, and throughout the night we received updates that her condition was rapidly worsening. We were devastated and exhausted, trying to process how quickly we were losing our beloved dog. Bella peacefully passed away on May 22. What hurts the most is the lack of urgency, care, and compassion shown by Paradise Animal Clinic. We later realized the clinic was preparing to close for Memorial Day weekend from Thursday through Tuesday, and it felt as though Bella’s condition was dismissed rather than properly addressed. The following Tuesday morning, I received a phone call from the clinic asking for Bella and wanting to know how she was feeling. When I informed them that she had passed away on Friday, there was silence on the phone followed only by, “I’m sorry.” There was no effort to ask what happened, no concern shown, and no accountability. I will never return to this veterinary clinic. I truly believe my best friend of 11 years may have had a better chance if her condition had been treated with the urgency and care it deserved. The lack of compassion and proper medical attention we experienced was unbelievable, and I would not recommend this clinic to anyone.

My dog was not doing well and we decided to take her to the vet. We took a chance and went to Paradise Animal Clinic. When we walked in we were greeted right away, I was asked if I had an appointment. I did not, they took us any way! that took me by surprised 😮 I waited 15 minutes and we were called. We were greeted by a nice young man who took down our info. He said stay here let me get the doctor, it didn't take long at all...about 10 minutes the doctor came in. To make a way to long story short...the doctor is super cool 😎 the staff are friendly, the clinic is spacious, clean and no smell. I found the price reasonable. I highly recommend this vet, so if your furry baby is sick give them a try and judge for yourself.

The experience, in general, was 50/100. It was my first time, and they didn't explain their process ( Unlike a regular clinic ), they didn't provide a tag or an invoice after my appointment. I had to stay on top of them to get everything. It is sad to have to leave a bad review when the doctor was amazing, but the reception is not good enough.
