How to Save Money at Rose Canyon Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My husband and I had the best experience at Rose Canyon Animal Hospital on Sunday, 12/28/2025, and felt compelled to share because they truly made our first ER visit as pet parents so much less intense and overwhelming. Finding out that our 5-year-old first fur baby, Smokey, was peeing blood completely shook me. My heart sank and I felt instant panic, fear, and anxiety. As pet parents, it’s terrifying not knowing what’s happening and how serious it could be. After some research and advice from a friend, we knew blood in the urine and frequent litter box trips can sometimes signal a urinary issue that needs urgent attention, so we rushed him in immediately. My husband found Rose Canyon Animal Hospital on Google, and we went straight there that morning. We noticed a sign on the door that said “Sunday ER visits by appointment only,” but we went in anyway hoping they could help. Thankfully, they saw Smokey right away. As my husband said, they earned our future business for life right then and there. He later shared that online estimates were showing anywhere from $800–$1,200 for even a basic ER visit and much higher for more serious cases, so we were incredibly relieved with both the care and transparency around pricing. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a kind and compassionate receptionist who immediately picked up on how worried I was. Her warmth alone helped calm me down. She asked a few quick questions, had us fill out a short form, and within minutes Smokey was taken back for a physical exam and initial diagnostics before we were brought into a room. Before the doctor came in, a team member walked us through Smokey’s initial exam findings. She was clear, thorough, and reassuring, letting us know there were no immediate signs pointing to a urinary blockage, which was a huge relief. I got emotional, and she met that moment with genuine empathy and understanding. She even offered Smokey his first Churu treats and let him roam freely in the room instead of staying in his carrier, which made a big difference for both him and us. When Dr. Alonso Byron came in, he was incredibly gentle, calm, and knowledgeable. He even had Smokey purring during the exam — which says everything. You could truly tell how much he loves what he does and cares about his patients. From start to finish, the entire team made what could have been a terrifying ER experience feel manageable, compassionate, and supportive. We are so grateful for the care Smokey received and are confident we’ve found our long-term vet for all of our fur babies. Thank you so much to the entire Rose Canyon team for taking such great care of Smokey — and us. 🤍🐾

I’ve been a pet owner for over 20 years, and I can honestly say this is the best veterinary team I’ve ever worked with. From the doctors to the staff, everyone is incredibly kind, communicative, and genuinely loving toward the animals in their care. My cat, Coco, had a terrible accident—she fell three stories and broke her leg, requiring surgery with pins placed in her bones. It was terrifying, but Rose Canyon made me feel safe and confident every step of the way. They treated Coco as if she were their own and gave her excellent care. Dr Hanks is incredible! What also stood out is how transparent they are about pricing. They explain everything clearly, and they don’t tack on unnecessary charges. That kind of honesty builds real trust. I’m so grateful to this hospital and the people who work there. They truly mean the world to me, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for compassionate, trustworthy veterinary care.

The team at Rose Canyon always goes above and beyond for my pets. If I could give them five stars, I would! My dog has seen Dr. Hanks for a couple years now and he's always been very caring and knowledgeable about her issues. I also brought in a new puppy for a wellness check and the puppy felt instantly comfortable around him and the rest of the vet techs. Their pricing is also very transparent and fair. I also love their business hours as it's easy to make an appointment and get seen after a typical work day or weekends.

I’ve been bringing my dogs to Rose Canyon Animal Hospital for four years now, and they’ve consistently gone above and beyond. They’ve been compassionate, understanding, and truly great with my reactive dog. Never judgmental, always patient. A few years ago, they even did a successful stitching procedure for him after he got injured while I was out of town, and I was so grateful for how quickly and professionally they handled everything. Yesterday, we brought in our new GSD puppy, Canna, and saw Dr. Hanks, who was absolutely amazing. We were the last appointment of the day, but he never made us feel rushed or like a bother. He literally sat on the floor with our pup to help her feel comfortable, and patiently answered all of our questions (there were a lot!). He was knowledgeable, kind, and clearly cares deeply about the animals he treats. The front desk team is always friendly and welcoming, and I really appreciate how well they handle everything from the high-energy puppy visits to the more sensitive cases. If you have a reactive dog or a new pup, I highly recommend Rose Canyon, especially Dr. Hanks! The whole team truly makes each visit a positive one!
