Do not recommend
I have been with Healthy Paws for 9 years, no claims and all of the sudden they raise the premium to more than double. From $65 to $150. Their justification was that more pet owners file claims in CA right now. Wouldn't backdate my cancellation, even tho I caught it within a couple days of them hiking my rate. Super annoying to be forced to change providers at my dogs age.

Terrible First Experience
Terrible First Experience with Trupanion Trupanion has an excellent sales and customer service team — they’re polite, friendly, and make signing up for their program very easy. Unfortunately, that’s where the good experience ends. After months of paying premiums, I recently had to make my first claim, and Trupanion refused to pay. My cat Sky is two years old and has only ever been seen at two veterinary clinics — The Glebe Animal Hospital (for her kitten vaccinations) and Juno Vet, her current clinic. A couple of weeks ago, I tried a dental cleaning powder for Sky. After about five days, she developed itchiness and hair loss around her neck and legs. I stopped using the product immediately and booked a vet appointment. Shortly after, I also discovered that Sky had broken a tooth, and the vet recommended bloodwork and surgery to remove two damaged canine teeth to prevent further mouth and gum issues. Juno Vet contacted Trupanion for pre-approval and submitted her medical records — but Trupanion denied the claim, calling it a pre-existing condition. This makes absolutely no sense. Sky broke a different tooth almost a year ago (in May 2024) and had a completely unrelated rash months ago (July 2025). These are not connected to the current issue in any way. I’m extremely disappointed — after paying regularly, my first claim was denied, leaving me with a $600 vet bill and zero coverage. Overall, this has been a terrible and frustrating experience. I will be cancelling Sky’s policy and cannot recommend Trupanion to other pet owners.
